When two immigrants first came to Australia, they didn’t have much just a dream to build a better life and share the food they grew up with. That dream turned into Sun Ming a place where family, hard work, and good food come together.

To be recognised among so many great restaurants means the world to us. But honestly, it’s all thanks to our amazing team who keep pushing every day, and to our community who’s supported us for over 30 years.

Father’s Day has always been a complicated one for me. For a long time, after my dad passed away, I didn’t really care much for it. The day would come and go, and instead of celebration, it mostly reminded me of the emptiness that comes with losing him. But now, being a father myself, the meaning of the day has shifted. It’s a mix of emotions gratitude and reflection.

I’m grateful every single day to be a dad. My child gives me a sense of purpose that grounds me, and on Father’s Day I feel that more than ever. At the same time, I can’t help but think of my own father how much he taught me, not just about cooking, but about patience, resilience, and the value of hard work. His lessons live on in everything I do, especially in the restaurant.

For many people, Father’s Day might mean going out for a nice meal, putting your feet up, or being celebrated by your family. For me, it means being exactly where I want to be inside the restaurant kitchen, cooking.
