I can’t begin to explain the absolute dream this summer was. Ever since I decided I wanted to devote my life to public service, interning on the Hill has been a huge goal. This summer, that goal became a reality.

Working for Congressman Tom Cole, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, was the best experience I could have asked for. I had the opportunity to attend hearings and prepare briefings on the Supreme Court Budget and security, immigration policy, Medicare/Medicaid, Native American policy, and veterans affairs. This allowed me to gain indispensable knowledge in several areas that I hadn’t had exposure to.

Besides work, I had FUN. Washington D.C. is such an amazing place besides Capitol Hill! I met amazing people, all the way from other interns to my favorite legislator John Neely Kennedy of Louisiana!

America’s 250th Birthday in D.C.! 🎆🎇🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

This definitely did not go how I imagined, but these memories will last forever!

A sneak peek into the day:
- Went in circles in the barricades because we didn’t realize the Washington Monument was blocked off🤦‍♂️
- Watched some really cool flyovers in the scorching heat
- Used passes graciously given by @kailee.macy to sit INCREDIBLY close to the stage at Salute to America
- Saw some insane flyovers (Thunderbirds were AWESOME)
- Got evacuated for weather and couldn’t get back in
- Watched the fireworks from the wharf!
- Hid from the rain under the marquee at the Anthem only for someone to throw a mortar firework into the street, which blew up and hit my friend in the leg.
- Didn’t wanna take the metro back, so walked from The Wharf all around the Jefferson Memorial and back into the city ( about 3 miles or more not sure) until we finally got on the metro because Foggy Bottom was too far haha
- Got in my bed at 3:00 AM!

20,000 steps and 9 miles walked later, it was one of the craziest and most memorable days of my life! taken in Washington D. C. by @chan_man2024

P.S.A. to all of my friends, especially those who throw away election ads from the mailbox, switch the channel when ads come on, or simply don’t pay attention to politics (and sometimes I can’t blame you)!

IT’S ELECTION SEASON and time for the Political Science major in me to come out!

TOMORROW is the primary day for all Oklahoma elections! If you are registered to vote with a party such as Republican or Democrat, you have elections to choose who represents your party in November.

These elections are for everything from U.S. Senate, Governor, to County Commissioner and other county offices. Google OK Voter Portal to look at a sample ballot, find your voting precinct, and MORE!

If you are registered as an independent, you do not have a primary, which is different from previous election cycles, BUT you can vote in the State Question that’s been brought forth about raising the minimum wage.

All voters in Oklahoma, regardless of party, can vote yes or no on the State Question. There is more to it than simply raising the minimum wage, so do your research and read the SQ!

Pokes in Politics Capitol Day! We had the distinct pleasure of visiting the Oklahoma State Capitol! What a great opportunity to interact with legislators, oversee floor sessions, and meet with advocates! I loved getting to see old friends from my days as an intern! We were recognized in both chambers by Majority Leader Julie Daniels of the Senate and Representative Trish Ranson of the House of Representatives.
