I suppose I’m not as patient as I once thought…. And my excitement has yet got the best of me once more.

My Runeborn patrons got the first look, and saw the briefs along the way—which is still so cool to go and look at.

What if Aragorn lost everything after the War for the One Ring? And what if Sam had to kill Frodo in order to save Middle Earth?

These were the two questions rattling through my head as I took on the journey to write this story. Along the way—characters showed themselves, as did their own unique stories that I felt needed to be told. And here we are at the closing of the first Ark of this saga.

Thoughts on Empire of Storms:

Okay—so as far as the throne of glass series goes, this one ranks ahead of books one and two for me—but behind the rest. I do not count Assassins Blade in that because I think my suspension of disbelief after reading that novella was really challenged (I think character relationships were set up one way and paid off differently and the inconsistency kind of threw me).

The ending of this book I think is objectively the most epic thus far—that said, it did something similar to Morning Star that isn’t my favorite narrative choice. And mind you, I say this knowing full well how successful both of those series are, so it sounds like a me problemo. That said, I enjoyed this book and I’m slowly getting into Tower of Dawn. And seeing the set up of what’s to come here is actually really cool.

SPOILER THOUGHTS DO NOT READ:

The narrative choice issues I referred to above—being inside a characters head and then them making choices and executing plans we as the reader aren’t privy to is something I dislike inside of narrative. It makes what happens feel sort of cheap and unearned to me. Again, I think this is a me issue, but Aelin turning herself in, getting married, having someone designated to be her going forward temporarily all didn’t register for me the way I think they could have—even if it was hinted at in the narrative. And again; maybe I missed something, so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Additionally, the convergence of Elide and Lorcan in the forest felt very silly. Lorcan was going to straight up kill their girl and they don’t even bind this foo? What the duck. And then Elide “dying” scene that lasted 6174$21 minutes and then not dying obviously also had me begging for that scene to end. Again—Sarah J Maas doesn’t need my input lol but just a taste thing I reckon. Manon continues to be a favorite character in the series… maybe even number 1. Anyways…. Have a nice weekend.

Currently reading: Streets of Loredo—an incredible book thus far and it’s nice to be back in the McMurtry’s distinct character voices. Though the universe itself is pretty darn savage. Thoroughly enjoying the read thus far… despite my speed not quite as fast through it 😉

Wanted to highlight this beautiful @thebrokenbinding edition of LD here too. Been a while since I read it, but the characters still live vividly in my mind.

I’ll post a summary of my thoughts on Empire of Storms next week as I go back to around the midpoint of Tower of Dawn to continue my throne of glass read.

To be at this point still within two years of publishing my debut—I’m beyond grateful to all of you that have taken the leap and given this series a chance. This past week—I finished the second draft of THATD. So excited for what’s to come. I’m 100 pages into the third draft and the story is truly refining before it gets to test readers. I’m a happy fellar. And it lined up perfectly with the audiobook release!!!!
