Today we’re launching the #FixOurFeeds campaign.

Teach Us Consent is calling on the Australian Government to introduce a world-leading opt-in feature for social media algorithms. This will bring affirmative, informed consent to our digital lives by giving us real control: algorithm-free feeds by default, with the ability to opt in, or out, at any time.

Why? Because across Australia, young men and boys are being systemically radicalised online through a constant feed of harmful misogynistic content. And it’s directly contributing to the nation’s worsening crisis of gender-based violence.

Most young men are not looking for anti-feminist content, but the invisible code behind our screens seems determined to make sure it finds them. Victims of s*xual assault and harassment deserve better. Young men being targeted and led down these spurious rabbit holes deserve better too.

Today marks exactly one year since we launched a petition demanding for earlier and more holistic consent education to be mandated in Australian schools. After over 44,000 signatures, more than 6,700 testimonies of sexual assault, and countless hours of volunteer work and support, we are very happy to announce that we did it ‼️🎉 thank you to everyone involved ❤️ taken in Australia by @chanelc

New @unimelb research led by Dr Sara Meger found that 1 in 3 teen boys expressed misogynistic attitudes and that Gen Z men hold more hostile views towards women than their grandfathers.

Our founder and CEO @chanelc joined Dr Meger on @bbcnews to unpack what’s driving it all, including how recommendation algorithms are amplifying content that’s contributing to the increase in misogynistic attitudes in young men.

Misogyny is the most consistent route to radicalised violence, mass attacks against women are accelerating exponentially, and the perpetrators of violent extremism are getting younger and younger - online spaces as drivers of this must be interrogated and addressed

Learnt so much at The Christchurch Call Action Forum at @oxford_uni @blavatnikschool about dismantling online misogyny and violent extremism - a privilege to be part of the Executive Roundtable on the topic and loved sharing the success of #FixOurFeeds with this group (big claps) and Australia’s world leading online safety work @esafetyoffice

Misogyny is no longer only a threat to women - it’s a national security issue and an overlooked security concern for Australia

Comment 'listen' for the full story 👇 Thank you @chanelc for this incredible conversation. We will absolutely be referencing it in many many episodes to come. Also, huge news! Chanel's Fix Our Feeds campaign got the green light from the Australian Government this week. In this episode, we discuss her National Press Club address, what it's like to become the face of the consent movement and how algorithms have impacted dating in 2026. by @chanelc

How did a small youth-led charity regulate the biggest companies in the world ?!?! The idea for #FixOurFeeds started with research for my final big policy paper at @blavatnikschool @oxford_uni - when I finished I thought ‘@teachusconsent could totally do this’??? ➡️

@albomp and @anikawellsmp probably don’t remember but at UNGA in September 2025 was the first time I mentioned algorithms to them - I’m talking in all the photos bc I knew I only had 30 seconds lol

Passed on the assignment I had done to @pninahagege and she led a SUPER comprehensive and ongoing consultation with experts in tech and gender based violence to land on exactly what we wanted #FixOurFeeds to be (thank you to all who consulted) (the bananas are irrelevant to the narrative, but one time we asked Roo to buy us breakfast bc we were HUSTLING and he came back with 15 bananas)

@scoobydoobner set up a shoot in london (ty @popstefani @jacksonlana) 💌

We were on a team retreat and launched our video and open letter first thing in the morning… from bed… dream team culture 🧚 thank you to EVERYONE who signed our open letter to the PM - over 100 influential Australians + 15,000 every day Aussies

It was meant to be a relaxing team retreat but we got such an incredible reception to the launch that everyone put in the hard yards until midnight to keep momentum up (whoops) @hellsbell.es @tesssfuller @adam_hedjy @pninahagege

@elleaus happened to be there and saw and reported on all the support in live time (meanwhile we were doing our hair, make up and fake fan for the shoot)

@pninahagege emailed as many MPs and Senators as we could from all sides of politics to give them info on #FixOurFeeds, brief them, and ask for their support ⭐️

Another shoot day to hear from youth, teachers, experts, and men who had been taken down manosphere pipelines and then back out @thurkka.jeyakumar @drpramudieg @janeylarks

Spoke about #FixOurFeeds at the UN as part of the Australian Delegation to CSW70

Met with some world leaders and would u believe it I would NOT stop talking about algorithms :) @justinpjtrudeau

Last week, the Governor-General welcomed @chanelc and the @teachusconsent team to Government House to hear about their important work improving consent education and helping to create safer, more respectful online spaces for young Australians.

Following Chanel’s address at the National Press Club, the conversation explored her long-term research into the increasingly negative and harmful impacts of social media algorithms on young people.

It was a valuable discussion about the power of education, technology and positive role models in shaping attitudes, and the importance of protecting a generation of Australians growing up shaped by social media. by @chanelc

In December 2025, we launched the #FixOurFeeds campaign in response to social media algorithms systematically pushing extreme misogynistic content to young men and boys.

Today, after mammoth community support and months of steady campaigning, the Albanese Government committed to the policy ask behind the campaign, bringing opt-in algorithms to social media platforms.

This commitment sends a clear message to Big Tech: you cannot introduce harmful features into our lives without asking for our consent first.

It is a major step towards addressing the growing power imbalance between tech companies and everyday Australians. And it reminds us that we don’t have to accept invasive, addictive design as the cost of being online.

We will keep you up to date on how opt-in algorithm policy may work as we know more and the legislation is solidified.

For now, THANK YOU! by @chanelc

Opt-in and opt-out algorithms might sound similar, but there are some important differences.

Opt-out still means Big Tech holds all the power and assumes our consent. It allows recommendation algorithms to force-feed Australians content as the default and puts the burden on individuals to turn it off.

In that way, the current system is a form of censorship itself. It’s Big Tech, not the individual, deciding what you see and what’s hidden from you.

Opt-in flips that around, making it so the choice belongs to the individual from the very beginning. It means the default is a following-driven feed, and you have full control over whether you opt in to a recommendation driven-feed.

We don’t have to accept invasive, addictive design as the cost of being online. We’re asking Big Tech to follow the same lesson we teach our young people every day: ask first. by @chanelc

Yesterday, against the backdrop of immense global momentum to hold Big Tech to account, our CEO & Founder @chanelc addressed the National Press Club of Australia on the urgent issue of social media recommendation algorithms.

As she said, when the infrastructure curating what we see online is intentionally designed to prioritise content that provokes the strongest emotional reactions, it creates an environment where hateful content doesn’t merely exist - it succeeds and dominates.

That’s why Teach Us Consent is calling on the Australian Government to introduce a mandatory “opt-in” feature for algorithms on all social media platforms.

This is about bringing affirmative and informed consent to our digital lives. It would give young people a safer introduction to social media, while setting a clear precedent that technology companies cannot impose pernicious and harmful products and features on millions of Australians without asking us first.

Australians are ready for this change. 71% of support government action to make recommendation algorithms opt-in.

You can help support us by joining over 14,000 Australians and signing the Open Letter to Prime Minister @albomp at the link in our bio. by @chanelc

Consent education is designed to support both boys and girls to build happy, healthy relationships. For young boys, who are often socialised away from the vulnerability, emotional literacy, respect and accountability needed to cultivate healthy relationships with themselves and others, it can be particularly valuable.

The manosphere exploits the frustration, loneliness and uncertainty that can arise from narrow ideas about how to be a man. Boys and young men are not personally seeking this content out because of consent education. They are being actively drawn in by a multi-billion dollar grievance industry that amplifies harmful content for profit.

That’s the issue we need to address.

And it’s why we’re calling on the Australian Government to introduce a mandatory opt-in for algorithms on all social media platforms, bringing affirmative and informed consent to our digital lives.
