My fitness journey started with losing the postpartum weight.

But somewhere along the way, the goal changed.

I’m not trying to get my old body back.
I’m not trying to get smaller.

I’m curious what this body can do.

How strong can I get?
How far can I go?
What am I capable of at 44?

A year ago, I started weight training consistently for the first time in my life.

One year later, I’ve never felt stronger.

And I’m just getting started. 🔥

Ladies in your 40s — let’s find out what we’re capable of.

I have fond memories of my 하모니 grandmother singing this song to me.

The powerful Arirang chant transforms grief into endurance — and pain into the inner strength to keep moving forward.

At some point in our lives, we all have to exercise resilience.
To carry what has hurt us, and keep moving forward.

Maybe that’s what makes Arirang so powerful.
A song of longing, sorrow, hope and perseverance.

We all have our own Arirang.

We are all Arirang. 🇰🇷

Thank you @1000hooae for shooting this for me. It was perfect!

I’ve only just started my Jiu Jitsu journey, but I already know I’m learning so much more than I expected.

I ran to my first class wanting to learn self-defence. What I didn’t expect was how much I’d learn about confidence, strength, patience, resilience and staying calm when I’m uncomfortable.

I’m also lucky to have found such a welcoming community and gym at @universalmma. 🥋

I truly believe everyone — men and women, boys and girls — should learn some Jiu-Jitsu at some point in their lives.

But for women especially, I think there’s something incredibly empowering to build strength and confidence.

The confidence you build on the mats doesn’t stay on the mats; it applies to many faucets of life.

Just getting started… but I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.

Motherhood didn’t make me softer.

Becoming a mom in my 40s showed me a strength I didn’t know I had.

The kind that protects fiercely.
The kind that keeps going when you’re exhausted.
The kind that will rebuild from the ground up.

I became a lioness.

My son didn’t make me weaker.

He gave me another reason to become stronger.

And maybe that’s the thing about becoming a mom later in life…

You realize you still have so much becoming left to do. 🦁

Apparently us 80s babies are aging backwards…

But honestly, I think we just finally figured out that getting older doesn’t mean getting boring.

We lift.
We move.
We take care of ourselves.
We dress up.
We go out.
We laugh way too hard.
And we’re probably stronger now than we were at 25. 💪🏼

To all my 80s babies… are we aging backwards or what? 👀👇🏼

Hardest thing about having kids in your 40s - for me.

Does anybody else relate?

First time trying Jiujitsu was in my 40s!

Thank goodness for great instructors, patient classmates & a wonderful community! Felt I was put through the washing machine but I loved every moment of it.

Literally within 24 hours of running my first 50km Ultra, I went and got my first tattoo piece done.

Maybe not everything we do needs a deeper meaning.

Some tattoos commemorate someone.
Some mark a milestone.
Some represent identity, culture, spirituality or empowerment.
Some tell a story.

And some…

You just want one. 🙂

For the first time in my life, I didn’t feel the need to justify why I wanted to do something.

I wanted it. So I did it.

Maybe that’s part of growing into yourself.

Not needing permission.
Not needing a profound reason.
Not needing everyone else to understand.

Just knowing what you want — and letting yourself have it.

To my first tattoo in my 40s. 🖤

When my baby was almost 2 years old, I completed my first full marathon @bmovanmarathon just last year. That’s 42.2km!

My friends & family saw me cross the finish line. But no one saw me do the endless kilometres of walks I did first.
My goal was to get to 10,000 steps a day, everyday.
I didn’t have a coach, I had no idea that weight training would have complemented my marathon training. I just walked.

Walking led me to my first jog, to my first run, and then the finish line of my first marathon. I still can’t believe I did it.

What’s your first small step towards a goal you will take today? 👇
