A sample-based boom bap beat tape blending classic East Coast hip-hop with soulful sounds from Spain and Brazil. Inspired by the dusty production of J Dilla, Madlib, 9th Wonder, Nujabes, and A Tribe Called Quest, these beats pair chopped vinyl samples, hard drums, and warm textures with acapellas from Wu-Tang members and Redman. Built for listeners who appreciate raw, head-nodding hip-hop and the art of crate digging.

The Ash To Amber instrumental album is a collection of beats that were inspired by both East and West Coast 90s beats. The album’s first 6 beats are cool in tone (Ash), while the final 6 beats are warm in tone (Amber). The direct inspirations for this project include J Dilla, the Griselda collective, Pete Rock, Madlib, Dj Pooh, and among many others. Research and practice was my weapon, and I did my best to sharpen that over this past year of producing. There were many times I wanted to release what I had early because I was so passionate about it, but I’m glad I held on and made worth while adjustments to fit the narrative. This project was released just one day shy of a full year after my last one, the Firestarter Ep. The Ash To Amber instrumental album is everything I wish the Firestarter Ep could have been. With a total of 12 demo tracks, pulling from different sources of inspiration, there’s something for everyone 🔥🔥🔥

The Warm Side — the last six instrumentals from Ash To Amber. These warm, soulful boom bap beats are inspired by early 90s hip-hop.

Sunny chords, dusty grooves, and that West Coast soul.
Influences: The Alchemist, J Dilla, Madlib, DJ Pooh.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest, Fan-Tas-Tic Vol 1 by Slum Village, and The Unseen by Quasimoto fundamentally changed the way I perceived music. From the grimy textures to the blissful melodies used, I could not get enough. These albums would be on repeat as inspiration for my project, Ash To Amber. Their presence can be felt, and heard if listened closely. I dove into these albums completely deconstructing them to understand what was going on. I learned priceless knowledge that I then applied to my work, bringing that authentic 90s sound to life. This project took a year to create, making many revisions, mixes, and alterations. I found the samples used entirely on my own, also using sounds on my mpc studio. I wanted to create something that reminded me of my life through this album. For half of my life I bounced around the west, mostly living in California, and I now live in Ohio. I wanted to capture and display these feelings of each place, as well as how I’ve been the past year, in the tracks found in Ash To Amber. Over the past year I’ve worked as an assistant manager at Planet Fitness, a dead-end job considering I have a degree I am unable to utilize. Keep your ears peeled and you’ll hear the trademark Lunk Alarm in some of these tracks. The creation of this album gave me a sense of purpose and I will forever be thankful for everything it took to do so.

Today marks one year since the release of the Firestarter Ep. The first photo is the album cover created by my friend Sam. The next few slides are scraps from the project’s promo material created by Grant. The last two slides are beats that didn’t make the cut. Enjoy🔥

BTS:
The idea of producing happened just after I heard “The Sun Rises In The East” by Jeru the Damaja and DJ Premier. It was so influential, and easy to digest. I really became inspired and I couldn’t just sit on the thought of at least trying to make something. I then downloaded reaper and quickly became overwhelmed by, what looked like a pilot’s cockpit. After getting a small understanding of how the program worked, I then tried to remake “My Mind Spray”. That happened on February 14, 2024. It came out just as you’d expect, nothing like Premier. After that I set on making my own project with samples I found on my own, and drums used by A Tribe Called Quest. The Firestarter Ep was made from 3 bar loops, that made the melody. This provided a nice groove to the 4/4 of the drums. I took this idea straight from Qtip. There’s a lot more information on my YouTube in the description of the Ep🔥🔥🔥

Small note: my buddy Rooney was on a trip in Spain during the creation of the Ep. He found a French girl to say some bs for me as my tags. All the tags you’ve heard from me came from that one interaction in Spain.

Here’s my first beat submission to @theproducerscorner sample challenge #411. Very excited to post beat submissions here. Check out for support!

Two different samples from the playlist were used, with just a little over an hour to create. I wanted this to be timed, to try and use this as an exercise. There are a lot of crazy submissions.
