POSTS STORIES REELS

I have had multiple people ask me lately: so what is it exactly that you do for work?

They know I own a small business, but I don’t think I do a very good job of actually telling you all what it is I really do at work.

If you were to ask my kids, they would tell you that I am a teacher for adults. Which is kind of true.

I do hope that my work helps people learn.

I am a leadership coach and facilitator. I work with senior leadership teams in the working world to help them be better leaders.

I do 1-on-1 executive coaching with director, vice president, or C suite level leaders. I also do leadership keynotes. And finally, I run leadership workshops.

But I don’t just teach you how to be a better leader. I don’t think I have all of the answers. I might share best practices with you, but then you have to co-create real ways that you want to go take what we decide together and go implement it in your real work.

My training classes are not boring. They are more like strategy sessions to decide with your peers for how you want to choose to lead differently.

So is a day in the life of a founder, coach, and facilitator. This week alone I have been to Los Angeles, Seattle, and back to Kansas City.

Some weeks are much busier than others. Some days are much longer than others. (This afternoon I am taking a nap after yesterday’s long day.)

But every day, I feel grateful that my job is to help other people grow as humans. I want change the working world so that bad bosses are a thing of the past.

PS: would you shower in a Delta lounge at the airport? It felt luxurious to me, but I could see how some people would think it is gross. 😂 by @changewithmegan

you cry not because you finished…but because every moment, every doubt, every early morning, every sacrifice, every choice, every run you didn’t want to do, every workout that almost broke you, every “what if”…EVERYTHING that got you to that very moment comes rushing back. & suddenly you feel WHY you did it. 😭

part of you changes when you push yourself out of your comfort zone. 🫶🏻 & it’s the best feeling in the world.

you can do hard things. trust me. ⚡️ your moment isn’t out of reach.

If you are in a challenging season where it feels impossible to dream about the next chapter of your life, you aren’t alone.

I’ve been experimenting with something I call the dream scale.

The problem is that so many people believe that they have to be high ambition all the time. And then when hard things happen, they think that they are slacking off or being lazy.

In reality, our brain simply doesn’t have enough capacity to dream big. Because it is consumed with survival and trying to battle the stress we are experiencing.

Other times, our dream scale is turned all the way up. We feel abundant and creative.

The dream skill is meant to go up and down with our lives. There isn’t one way to be ambitious or to be creative.

So if you are in a season where your dreams feel less accessible, please know that it’s likely just a product of whatever challenging stage you might be in right now.

and before too long, you are going to have more capacity to dream really big again. ❤️ by @changewithmegan

A HUGE congratulations to my good friend, @themarymessner , on the launch of her new book, Help Me Think Through This.

Mary has been one of the people who, not surprisingly, always helps me think through things.

When I first started on my own, Mary was there to encourage me. She shares transparently about building her own business so I feel safe to share openly too. She makes connections for other entrepreneurs because she sees genuine value in the services they provide. Mary is an incredible mom of two young girls and an advocate with many other young women through the work she's done at Madam President Camp.

I'm constantly in awe of how she chooses her integrity, kindness, and ambition to make the world a better place.

I'm super excited for you, Mary! Congrats on this book launch. May your words and example impact so many others in their own journeys of growth and fulfillment. ❤️ by @changewithmegan

Reminder: It’s okay (and great) to change…

Your mind
Your definition of success
Your goals
Your relationships
Your self story
Your habits
Your environment

… you.

Change simply means that you are growing. by @changewithmegan

A new witchy run tradition - the magical leaf run, jog, or walk.

You go outside onto a trail that has trees. The leaves should be falling!

On your run, walk, or jog, try to catch a leaf.

When you do, make a wish on it.

Release it back into the wind!

I caught three this run. I’m sure all the other runners think I’m silly, but we all need a bit more silly in our lives, IMO!

Tag a friend you’d love to magical leaf run with! 🍂 by @changewithmegan

Five years ago, I quit my corporate job and started my own business.

I had absolutely no idea what I was doing.

But I knew that I had big dreams and I wanted a different kind of life.

I wanted to feel creative and abundant and free to build things that matter in the world.

Don’t get me wrong, entrepreneurship is filled with ups and downs.

But when I look at my life right now, I am so grateful that so many parts of how I lived each week are what I was dreaming of five years ago.

I get to work with the most incredible leadership teams. I am a super present mom. My husband is the best partner I could ask for. I get to travel to incredible places. I spend a lot of time in my garden. I get to use my able body to do things like running and Hyrox.

When I stop and really think about it, all I can feel is deep gratitude for who I have become. And I really can’t wait to see who I get to become next. by @changewithmegan

As an eldest daughter of six kids in a blended family, I learned at an early age that self-worth was driven by taking care of others.

I learned that if I could control certain situations, I can make it better for everybody.

But somewhere in my 30s, I’ve realized that I don’t actually love being in charge all the time.

What I really love is being spontaneous. I love getting lost in my garden and having nowhere to be. I love somebody else planning everything and all I have to do is show up.

I think that a lot of times we think that to grow, we have to push our ourselves to be better. But lately, I’m realizing that my own growth is coming fast faster when I slow down long enough to see who I actually want to become. ❤️ by @changewithmegan

I wanted to share one of the tools I use with some of my executive leadership coaching clients.

It is called the identity dials.

Too many times, we have over indexed our self-worth into one part of our life or identity. But the reality is that we are so much more than just our job or just our role as a parent or partner.

To do this activity, write out nine circles on piece of paper. Each is a dial. Now, label each with one bucket of responsibility or self-worth in your life.

So many high achievers I work with hold themselves to more than 100% in each dial. When in reality, as humans, we only have capacity for 100% across all the dials COMBINED.

Now label the dials with how you see yourself using your time now. Notice where you’d like to adjust or where you’re over-under spending.

Or maybe where you’re holding yourself to unrealistic expectations.

And then pick one small way you can adjust this week.

We’re meant to be defined by more than just one part of who we are. ❤️ by @changewithmegan

I am an executive leadership coach in my day job. Which means that I work with leaders to help them grow.

I worked with thousands of leaders from some of the world’s biggest companies. And most of them are surprised when I share with them that are seven types of rest.

The framework is from Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith. Her TED talk is amazing if you haven’t seen it yet.

Type number one is physical rest.

Yes, sleep is definitely an important part of physical rest.

But sometimes it can also be stretching, drinking water, going for a walk in nature, or doing something else that recharges your body.

The second type is mental rest.

It means that your brain needs time to decompress and slow down. I read a ton of fiction books to decompress my mind. The predictability of a good romance novel is exactly what my brain needs to go quiet.

I also find that my brain gets most quiet when I am working out or running.

The third type of sensory rest.

We live in a world that is a constant flow of notifications and multitasking.

Sensory rest allows you to slow down and just focus on one specific quiet thing.

For me, my garden is this place. I can spend 10 minutes out there and then feel like a completely different person afterwards.

The fourth type is creative rest.

Especially as an entrepreneur, and somebody who was always building things, my brain feels like it can get on fire with how fast it is moving.

I love to slow it down with journaling or baking something. My garden also really helps me with my creative rest.

The fifth type is emotional rest.

All of us have emotions and feelings. It is helpful to allow them time and space to process. For me, this looks like calling a friend or meeting up with one for a cup of coffee. It’s sitting on the couch with my husband after the kids have gone to bed.

Or to scheduling a therapy session when my brain feels very full with lots of emotions.

The sixth type is social rest.

People are frequently surprised when I tell them that I am an introvert. I love public speaking, and I love connecting with people.

But especially as I am getting older, I love connecting with myself. Every year, I take myself on a solo by @changewithmegan

The last 72 hours have been an immersive whirlwind of community and growth at @thegrand.world’s The Grand Pursuit retreat.

The Grand Pursuit is a community built for ambitious founders and leaders who are also moms. We don’t want to give up one for the other. We believe that even though our society and systems aren’t built for us (yet), we can do it anyway. We can be badass entrepreneurs. And present moms. We can challenge ourselves and have deep gratitude for who we are right now.

These last few days felt like the warmest hug and the biggest push. Oh, what a joy it is to be surrounded by like-minded women who genuinely want to see each other win.

I’m always glad I say yes to the things that remind me of who I want to be.

We spent breakfast, lunch, and dinner talking about our dreams. Sharing our challenges. Finding the unique connections that only other founder moms can really “get.” We had a pajama party with matching jammies and ice cream sundaes. We went for a run. Hit the spa. Enjoyed the outdoors. And I’m so grateful for it all.

Thank you, @reireimagines, @anitahossain, @zoebabianklein and @mariah.kann for making this beautiful and unique space! by @changewithmegan
