i’ve lived here since 1998... lots of change happening in & near peckham.
i’m trying to capture some of it, from the recent past & as it unfolds ..

POSTS STORIES REELS

apropos the prior post, the station frontage will be restored, replacing the 2 windows with doors, back to its 1880’s original design ..

i haven’t posted here for a very long time, for a whole host of reasons. i take plenty of photos, hold onto them waiting for ‘before and after’ pairings, but it’s a bit ad hoc . finding out what’s going on is tricky and can be a random (even for someone curious, as i am) and also change takes time . i should probably have just been posting scenes along the way ... lesson learned!
lot’s is happening, and to start somewhere , let me share what i know about plans for Peckham Rye station. i attended an amazingly well attended meeting last night 120 + local people , and representatives from @southwarkcouncil @networkrail @transportforlondon & the local MP. @miatta_fahnbulleh_ . plans for Peckham Rye station have been in the pipeline for many years. it’s the busiest station nationally which is not accessible, whether for those with ill health and disabilities, or parents and carers with buggies. there are two components to the plans. the first is to develop the station frontage aka #peckhamryestationsquare . and work is starting now . access to the station is now only from the side streets . over the next 2 years, the 1930s buildings in front will be demolished / dismantled, with the opened spaces hard landscaped and the arches opened up for business ….
the station itself is a separate project and still needs fully funding. with current funding there will be some small updates, improving flow by opening up doors where the windows are, increasing the number of barriers, and decorative improvements. the most critical need is accessibility access with lifts, platform widening & so on. alas the money is not yet there for this, central govt funding is needed, and this project (tho is apparently high on the priority list) was declined in the last govt spending review in summer 2025. the hope is with campaigning and our MP support that funding will be agreed in 2027, if not before.

i’m all for new council housing . i don’t think i ever photographed this before the work started as i wasn’t aware change afoot. i always liked the look of this low rise ‘60s block tho i don’t know what it was like to live there … it will be interesting to see how the #artistsimpression is realised …

mid august 2021 ... i walked by here just over a month ago & was surprised to see building underway - it transpires many local residents were caught completely unaware of plans to build on this local & well used green space … though in train for years, it’s unclear how effective the consultation was & certainly a sense that local people were not kept informed of developments… yes to new homes, but not at the expense of precious #urbangreenspace . the earlier photos show southwark’s distinctive purple hoardings going up, sealing off the site .

may 2020.
#mountviewdramaschool opened in sept 18 . i like the building .. & it’s diversified the use of the green space as the students hang out there on sunny days. (some close ups of the building a while back on my other account @blurred_imo ) . before this there was a builders’ warehouse.
