COMETAS | 36x48 in | color pencil, graphite and acrylic paint on wood panel | 2025

I finally found the right tone of mix blues for the background and love how all the colors match my favorite images: “Diagram of the Comet of 1858” and “The Flammarion Engraving 1888”. by @channing.v.gray

At the studio everyday with no job, friends or other reality obligations. I realize I’m a craft goblin and being left on my own I am getting crazy but I think I’m resetting my brain with what I have been missing. Time on my own to be weird and make some creatures of the night. by @channing.v.gray

INTO NEVERLAND (Pre Covid Art)
Bailey Contemporary Arts Center
Pompano Beach, FL
On View October 2 - December 17, 2026

@bacapompanoarts

I always loved these circle paintings, I only keep them loose so I can roll them up and transport them easier. It also lets people see the notes I left behind and sometimes the drawing under the painting is just as important and I’m always afraid of loosing that in my work. by @channing.v.gray

Mourning Bundle | 29 x72in | charcoal and acrylic paint on canvas | 2026

I was thinking of having this hang with the Unknown woods painting… but all maybe adding tassels or fringe to the edges of my paintings to make them more tapestry like. by @channing.v.gray

What is Left Behind | Thank you to @ahmaitland for accepting my proposal for the 2025-2026 year. It was a long year and I felt I had completed projects that I’ve been wishing to make within a cool space and Studio 12 became that realm for me. I might be going back to my desk for a little bit but making art should be something created anywhere at anytime. From the graffiti streets of downtown to the songs of a late night coffee house, art needs to infect the places we occupy. What else is the point of having eyes if you can’t admire the beauty of the visions of the weird and wild. by @channing.v.gray

UNKNOWN ORACLE | charcoal and acrylic paint on canvas | 72x72 with 4 at 14in square | 2026

Where do we go when we pass on? With the recent death in my family, I wondered what happens with the memories of them. Some people collect and place stones over their burial mound. Some clip a lock of hair for an organic keepsake. Groups wrap the body within pure fabrics or fill a room with bold lilies. Some items are symbolized as a moment of remembrance for a loved one lost. I wondered what happens though if his next experience is like walking on a new trail, the plants fresh with green and trees old and young ahead. Until death may that unknown road be open for the quiet few. by @channing.v.gray
