I waited to post this until the exact moment when we said those 2 short but powerful and consequential words anyone can say in a lifetime. “I…DO…” These 2 years have gone by quickly and it still feels like it was just yesterday. On this day in 2024, I married my best friend, the love of my life, my boo thang, my protector, the finest man in my eyes and only one for me. I chose to put away my father’s last name which I did my best to bring honor to and take on “POWERS” to continue in bringing honor to his name. I thank those individuals who have continued to keep us covered in love, prayer and support. GOD has been at the center of our marriage and we plan to keep him there. We’re not a perfect couple but we strive to be the best version of “Us as 1” as we can be. The wedding was everything I wanted and more, but what we are building together is much more of what I want and need. Happy Heavenly Mother’s Day to the woman who carried me and birthed me into this world. No other woman will ever be able to hold the place deep within my heart and soul that she still holds today. This holiday is not easy for a lot of us who have lost our mothers but it’s still a day to reminisce on a lot of beautiful moments I shared with my Mama. 1:10am….4 years ago today, the phone call from the hospital came and time stood still... Although the intensity of the memories and the pain of losing you has faded with others, it hasn’t and will never for me. Although I smile and laugh in front of others, the solitude moments that are filled with random thoughts of you are still an emotional roller coaster. But then I think of your smile, your love and the words you said many times to us when you were alive. “If God takes me home, just keep living and know that I’m okay.” And that’s what I continue to do…keep living. Another Second…Minute…Hour…Day…Week…Month…Year….to get to My Birthday.

HE didn’t have to do it, but HE did!!!!(in my church voice 🤣) I thank God in this moment and every moment for allowing me to wake up and see another day that wasn’t promised. Most importantly, another year around the Sun. He didn’t promise me a journey without trials and tribulations, BUT he did promise to always be there when I needed him most. Walking out of this past year into another one and I’m grateful.

OMG! 1 Year Ago, Today, Patrick and I said I DO!!!! From saying yes to the marriage proposal to the engagement photoshoot, Bridal Showers, Pre-Wedding Moments to the Actual Wedding Day that included the honorary choir in my mom’s name, multi-Grammy award winner @mrtalkbox performing including his part on Bruno Mars’ “24 K” “Somethin Good” and other songs, and the official line dance king @officialnewcupid performing a collection of his old and new hits including “Cupid Shuffle,” “Flex” and serenading us with 112’s famous hit “Cupid.” The tears, joy and laughter were bountiful and of course our designers, Nneka Alexander and Geno Brown, had us looking and feeling like a million bucks! It was an experience for the ages. Again, we thank everyone who made that day everything it was. Could not have done it without any and everyone that was involved.

This year has been a beautiful whirlwind.
We continue to keep God first and take heed to all wise and supportive marriage counsel that has been given to us. Marrying you, Patrick, has been one of the best decisions I have ever made and I’m looking forward to continuing to doing life with you.
