People often assume my biggest strength is designing beautiful interiors.

The truth is, that's only part of what I do.

Before interior design, I spent 15 years working in marketing, learning how branding, customer psychology, and positioning influence the way people make decisions.

Later, after more than a decade designing commercial interiors, I realized something important.

The most successful spaces aren't built around trends.

They're built around people.

That's why every project starts by understanding the business first.

Only then do we design the environment that brings that strategy to life.

Because great commercial design isn't just about creating beautiful spaces.

It's about creating businesses people remember.

One of the biggest misconceptions about branding is that it ends with a logo.

It doesn't.

Your brand should influence every decision that follows.

The colors you choose.

The materials you specify.

The lighting.

The layout.

Even the way your clients move through the space.

When your brand becomes the filter for every design decision, your business feels intentional instead of decorated.

That's how memorable brands are built.

This project didn't begin with a mood board or a floor plan.

It began with redefining the business itself.

The original identity had been built around one person, but the vision had evolved into something much bigger: a destination where beauty and wellness professionals could establish and grow their own businesses.

That meant the first design decision wasn't about finishes or furniture.

It was about creating a brand that could support that vision.

From the new name and identity to the material palette and interior concept, every decision reinforced the same story.

The result wasn't just a beautiful space.

It became an environment that reflected the business from the moment someone walked through the door.

A renovation can make your business look better.

But it won't automatically make your business stronger.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is investing heavily in beautiful interiors before defining the brand behind them.

If your message isn't clear, your space ends up communicating... nothing.

That's why every project begins with strategy.

Before we choose finishes, lighting, or layouts, we define the experience your business should create and the story it should tell.

Because beautiful design should reinforce your brand — not replace it.

One experience completely changed the way I approach commercial design.

Years ago, I visited one of the most beautiful nail salons I'd ever seen.

Everything looked incredible.

The finishes.

The atmosphere.

The details.

Later, I learned the business had closed.

That moment made me realize something I still think about today.

Beautiful interiors don't automatically create successful businesses.

Your space should support the experience you're promising your clients — not replace it.

That's why every project starts with understanding the business first.

Because the goal isn't just to create a beautiful interior.

It's to create an experience people remember.

When business owners think about luxury, they often think about expensive materials.

But that's rarely what clients remember.

They remember how your business made them feel.
A thoughtfully designed refreshment station.

A beautiful waiting area.

A small moment that felt intentional.

Those details become part of your brand experience.

The businesses people talk about aren't always the ones with the biggest renovation budgets.

They're the ones that create experiences worth sharing.

That's the difference between decorating a space and designing a memorable brand experience.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that porcelain chips too easily.

Can it chip?

Of course.

But so can quartz.

So can natural stone.

No material is completely damage-proof.

The reason I continue recommending porcelain isn't because it's perfect.

It's because I've lived with it.

I've used it throughout my own home, from the staircase to the bathrooms and laundry room, and it's performed incredibly well.

For many commercial projects, especially salons, med spas, and wellness spaces, its stain resistance and durability make it a practical choice for everyday use.

As designers, our job isn't to choose the trendiest material.
It's to choose the material that best supports the way a business actually operates.

What's one material you've always been curious about? I'd love to answer it in a future post. taken in California USA by @chantellstudio

Most business owners think a renovation starts with choosing finishes.
I disagree.

Before selecting materials, layouts, or lighting, you should first understand the business you're building.

Who are you trying to attract?

How should clients feel when they walk through your doors?

What should your business be remembered for?

Those answers shape every design decision that follows.

Because a commercial interior isn't just about aesthetics, it's part of your brand strategy.

When your brand leads the design process, your space works harder for your business by supporting trust, recognition, and a more memorable client experience.

When I first started my career, I thought becoming a better designer was the answer to everything.

If I improved my renders...
If I learned more software...
If I created better projects...
The clients would come.

They didn't.

The hardest lessons I learned had nothing to do with design.
They were about branding, pricing, positioning, marketing, and building a business that people actually remembered.

Those lessons changed everything.

That's why I created my mentorship.

Not to teach design, but to help designers build the business behind their talent.

Because your work deserves to be seen, valued, and priced with confidence.

Premium pricing isn't just about what you offer.

It's about how your business is experienced.

Long before someone books an appointment, they're already forming opinions based on your branding, your space, and the experience you create.

When every touchpoint feels intentional, your pricing feels more justified because your value is easier to recognize.

That's why we believe branding and commercial interiors should never be designed separately.

They work together to shape perception before the service even begins.

A beautiful renovation can attract attention.

A clear brand creates loyalty. This is something @posh.fortsmith understands very well!! When a brand knows their clients and brand we come in and just help elevate the interiors!!

But when you’re not sure we can help with that too!! Too many businesses invest in beautiful interiors before defining what they actually want people to experience.

That's why every commercial project I take on starts with strategy.

Before layouts.
Before finishes.
Before furniture.

We define the brand, the customer journey, and the business goals then we translate that into a space that feels intentional in every detail.

This same philosophy is at the heart of my upcoming workshop on branding and commercial interiors.

Luxury isn't about adding more.

It's about removing inconsistency.

A business starts to feel premium when every touchpoint works together from your branding and signage to your interior and customer experience.

When your visual identity feels disconnected, people notice... even if they can't explain why.

That's why we don't design spaces in isolation.

Every decision should reinforce the same story your brand is trying to tell.

Because consistency builds trust.

And trust builds memorable businesses.
