POSTS STORIES REELS

I can’t even express how much @webtoonofficial and @wattpad mean to me after this year’s NYCC is over.

I was lucky enough for the team at Webtoon/Wattpad to believe in me enough to moderate two panels at NYCC, both with stellar lineups of creators whom I myself admire as a fan.

First was Thursday’s “Your Origin Story: Turning Your Passion into a Dream Job with Webtoon” with Webtoon superstar creators @unfinstory (Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell), @brentgrey (Ordeal), @rotan_iah (Star Catcher), and @violchan (Death of a Pop Star). It was wonderful conversation about how these four very different creators found their way into the webcomics sphere full time, with each having their own unique backstory and journey to success.

Last was Sunday’s “The Fandom Effect: How Fans Shape Pop Culture” with Alessandra Ferreri (Head of Content at Wattpad), @leggybonio (writer/Community Editor at Atlas Obscura), @mianne.chan (writer/editor/founder of the youth-culture newsletter and social community @mixed.feelings), Elizabeth Mikel (journalist/co-host & editor of @fansplaining podcast), and @claire_ifying (Director of Culture at @teenvogue ). The conversation with these brilliant and accomplished women was a pleasure to listen to, let alone moderate.

Thank you again to Wattpad and Webtoon and their superstar PR team led by @jacquebrazz and @sabena_s, as well as my awesome panelists! I can’t wait to see what’s next for us all!

PS: if anyone has pictures from these panels, please send the over to me! 💜 by @chaoticgoodjenna

The way I am obsessed with this picture is too real. The smile on my face reflects the unbelievable joy in my heart at being able to share the stage at NYCC with some of my favorite creators and the president of @wattpad @webtoonofficial, Aron. The biggest thanks in the world to the wonderful people at Webtoon for entrusting me to moderate the “Build Your Franchise and Fandom in Webcomic” panel. And thank you to the panelists — Snailords, Brandon Chen, Red, Rachel Smythe, and Aron Levitz — for sharing your stories and advice and being some of the kindest and supportive people I’ve met. by @chaoticgoodjenna

I’ve been ruminating over how to put this experience into words for the last week and a half. If you told me a year ago that @portraitofafangirl would have a panel at SDCC and I would be sitting right in the middle of these unbelievable women, I would never have believed it. After all, I’m just a random girl from Long Island who stumbled into this huge world, right?

Over the last two years, I’ve learned that mindset is wrong.

I have worked tooth and nail with @thisdorkynerd on developing, launching, and nurturing POAFG podcast since fall of 2022. It’s so easy for me to downplay my successes due to my greatest enemy, Imposter Syndrome. But I’ve learned that it’s not only okay to celebrate my own hard work, but to claim the spotlight and confidently say “I did do this. And I’m beyond proud.”

I have never worked so hard on anything in my life and poured every bit of my heart and soul into something like I have for POAFG. Sitting on my very first panel with these women (all of whom I wouldn’t have even met if not for the podcast) was a core memory, and one I will never forget or take for granted for any second.

Thank you to @intermyth_ @speakerjpg and @alixygalixy for guiding us through the entire panel process, from topic conceptualization to the day of, and everything in between. Thank you for believing in our project, working tirelessly for us, and making me feel supported and ready to tackle the big stage. (I also could never have asked for a better moderator than Alix—I love you, lady!)

To my panelists: @lsirik @thehijabibounder @victoriamale1 and @latinasuperheroes — thank you for believing in POAFG and sharing your stories, both in your individual episodes and on the panel. I have made friends for life in each of you, and I couldn’t have asked for a better lineup of ladies to represent our mission.

And to Monica @thisdorkynerd — you believed in me when I had nothing to show for myself besides a gung-ho pluckiness. Thank you for seeing something in me that I didn’t see myself and for giving me endlessly opportunities that I couldn’t have imagined. I can’t ask for a better teammate, mentor, and support system. 💜

To the next big adventure for POAFG! by @chaoticgoodjenna

I have to talk about The Once and Future Queen by @paulalafferty_writes. I’m about 3/4 through and I can’t remember the last time I was so captivated and flat out in love with every aspect of a novel. From the overarching story, to the sublime pacing, to the interpersonal character dynamics, to the beating heart behind every single chapter.

For the past few months, I’ve been struggling with my own writing. I was so proud of myself for finishing my very first first daft of a novel that (to my surprise) contains a lot of similar elemental to this one. But I haven’t touched the draft in months. My motivation, mental health, and overall belief in my own abilities tanked and the project I poured my heart and soul into has suffered.

Reading The Once and Future Queen has reignited a fire in my soul that I thought might be extinguished forever. I have never been been both deeply inspired and throughly engrossed by a story before to the point where it feels like a creative turning point in my own life.

I don’t have enough words to recommend TOAFQ. Whether you’re a fan of Arthurian legends or not, pick this up right now! by @chaoticgoodjenna

Time to break out the conspiracy theory corkboard because this all lines up a little TOO nicely in my book.

What do you all think about #visionquest and the connection to #avengersdoomsday?

If this is true, I’m about to be insufferable seeing my twins together again in #visionquest
