The band Mulla formed in the autumn of 2019 as a duo comprising musicians Shahram and Shukri. During this period, they recorded the album *Sire*, which explored Arab-Islamic themes. Initially, the band claimed to be from Iraq to better define their image; however, due to misunderstandings within the black metal scene, they decided in 2025 to reveal their actual location: Oskemen (Ust-Kamenogorsk), Kazakhstan. A new album, *Jannan*, was released in 2026. As with all their previous albums, the lyrics are pro-Islamic in nature and written in Kazakh. Contrary to some perceptions, the band is not anti-religious—a rarity in the black metal genre.
