Chapel Sound and Society for Arts and Technology [SAT] are proud to co-present ‘Artist Opportunities in Immersive Creation’ led by @mouradbncr

This networking session, led by Mourad Bennacer, introduces the global ecosystem for immersive creation and opportunities at Montreal’s Society for Arts and Technology (SAT), including residencies and cross-disciplinary research. It aims to open channels for exchange between Vancouver’s and Montreal’s digital arts communities.

Mourad Bennacer @mouradbncr is a multidisciplinary artist and educator, specialized in immersive media, spatial audio and digital archiving. Inspired by the concept of memory transience, his compositional work as [indistinct voices over PA] explores the connections between technological obsolescence and data degradation through the lens of his north-african heritage, and the practice of experimental turntablism.

Part of the creation & development team at SAT, Mourad Bennacer @mouradbncr is involved in the development of immersive practices, through partnerships and international residency programs. He is also a curator for the SAT Fest international fulldome festival and Substrat, an immersive concert series focused on the promotion of local musical talents in immersive and multichannel music. He is also a co-founder of Unlog, a collective and independent label between music and media arts with a downtempo & leftfield electronic signature.

Chapel Sound and INTER/MEDIATE are proud to co-present an Introduction to Spatial Audio using MaxMSP and SPAT by @kiranbhumber

This workshop will cover the fundamentals of spatial audio. Participants will be guided through introductory theory of psychoacoustics through listening sessions and discussions, as well as the practice of different panning algorithms, effects and rendering formats (including binaural) using IRCAM’s SPAT library in Max/MSP.

Spat is a real-time spatial audio processor that allows composers, sound artists, performers, and sound engineers to control the localization of sound sources in 3D auditory spaces. In addition, Spat provides a powerful reverberation engine that can be applied to real and virtual auditory spaces.

Kiran Bhumber @kiranbhumber is an Indo-Canadian media artist, composer, sound designer, performer and educator based in Vancouver. Her interdisciplinary practice explores movement, touch, performativity and cultural memory through emerging technologies, interactive installations and performance systems. Working with multichannel and spatial audio, she examines how choreographed sound shapes listeners’ perceptions of space and narrative. Her work Phulkari translated Punjabi embroidery traditions into sound, movement and visuals through performance technology. Bhumber is co-founder and co-director of INTER/MEDIATE, supporting accessible media-art education and mentorship.

Chapel Sound and MADE BY WE are proud to co-present ‘Low End Love Story’ hosted by @honeydrippp

Low End Love Story explores bass as an embodied, relational, and community-building force. Drawing from futuristic dub principles, sound system culture, and embodied listening, Honeydrip traces her artistic practice through the physical and emotional possibilities of low frequencies.

As the founder of MORPH Sound System, Montreal’s femme and queer sound system collective, founded in 2025 and rooted in skill sharing, experimentation, and collective learning, she will share the opportunities and challenges of centering sound systems as a tool for fostering connection and developing agency.

Honeydrip @honeydrippp has been a notable name in the Montreal underground electronic scene for a decade. Having built her reputation in the burgeoning rave scene, she is now a revered bass music producer, DJ, and speaker builder who hosts workshops for women and LGBTQ+ to get more involved in sound system culture.

Her practice is heavily inspired by dub, reggae, and dancehall, which she hybridizes and explores to create her signature sound. Honeydrip has been touring as a DJ and a live performer in Europe, UK, South America, and Canada and has released on labels such as Banoffee Pies Records, Woozy, Early Reflex, and more. She continues to affiliate herself with some of the most avant-garde labels in electronic music and deepen her connection to sound system culture.

MIIIA, also known as N3ZHA, @miiia_n3zha emanates from Shanghai’s vibrant electronic music scene via Vancouver. Her alias is named after Nezha, a protective deity in Chinese folklore, representing Taoism. Over the past decade, she has carved out a niche with her distinctive soundscapes that merge psychedelic elements with themes of futuristic technology and cybernetic explorations.

Her journey in the music industry gained momentum with her radio show Trip Out Session on uDance, China’s pioneering 24-hour underground electronic music station. This platform led to her first international gig in Zurich and paved the way to notable participations, including MUTEK, Sonar HK, ADE, and the Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp in Beijing in 2014, where she shared stages with global artists like Benji B and Hudson Mohawke. Known for her dynamic live sets using an array of hardware, she delivers a tactile and taking experience that resonates deeply. Under various aliases, including San Tai Zi, she continues to push musical boundaries, crafting soundscapes that are as innovative as they are emotive.

In a world marked by uncertainty, rapid change, and collective transformation, The Emergence explores the moment between who we were and who we are becoming. This exhibition is not about rebirth as a single event, but about the ongoing process of shedding old identities, beliefs, and limitations.

See Vancouver artist MIIIA (aka N3ZHA) @miiia_n3zha premiere her new live A/V performance, The Emergence, in collaboration with visual artist MELT @melt.a.way alongside Dopplereffekt @__dopplereffekt__ and Honeydrip @honeydrippp , this Friday, October 2, 2026, at 9pm, in the SFU Fei & Milton Wong Experimental Theatre

Dopplereffekt’s @__dopplereffekt__ sound combines mechanistic Detroit techno with an uncanny pathos: their synthscapes “fetishize science” and suggest abandoned futures. Its founder Gerald Donald (Rudolf Klorzeiger) who has long been known as one half of Drexciya has spent the past two decades departing from the submerged mythology of Drexciya into his own cosmotechnical praxis. Dopplereffekt (with To-Nhan) debuted with Fascist State EP in 1995 on Donald’s own Dataphysix Engineering label and Gesamtkunstwerk in 1999 through DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolo Records. Intended to be a “total work of art” of abstract science and techno-politics, Dopplereffekt’s titles and music draw from theoretical physics on early albums like Linear Accelerator in 2003 and Calabi Yau Space on Aphex Twin’s Rephlex in 2007. Leisure System’s revival of Dopplereffekt in the 2010s continued this arc, forming a clear continuation of Donald’s post-Drexciyan myth-science. Metasymmetry, the duo’s 2025 debut on Tresor Records continues this lineage. On its four tracks, Dopplereffekt casts itself as documentarian of a technocratic fascist extrastatecraft, operating via planetary-scale computation. With its spare, metallic rhythms and eerie melodies, Metasymmetry demonstrates a sonic glimpse of a lifeworld where race, state and machine blur into a multiversal mode of being beyond comprehensible space-time.

See renowned Detroit electro duo Dopplereffekt @__dopplereffekt__ alongside Honeydrip @honeydrippp and MIIIA @miiia_n3zha x MELT @melt.a.way , this Friday, October 2, 2026, at 9pm, in the SFU Fei & Milton Wong Experimental Theatre
