BROTHER SPOTLIGHT: TJ
O’BRIEN

TJ O’Brien, from San Carlos, California, is a junior studying Strategic Corporate Communications with a business minor - and spends his mornings trading a live book for a hedge fund.
This summer TJ worked as an Investment Research Analyst at Oliver Al, a venture-backed Al startup, where he pioneered a market forecasting use case that turned the company’s model into a real quantitative edge. By the end of the summer, that work earned him an offer from the partner fund being pipelined through his Al model.
He’s now a Quantitative Trader and Investment Strategist at Monocle Capital, a private startup hedge fund, where at 20 years old he’s one of few people on the team. TJ manages the firm’s internal testing portfolio with complete oversight of the book, and the core strategies he backtested inside the Al model are now deployed live. He continues to co-engineer the trading system internally, building strategies that cross-reference the forecast against live and historical market data.
Next summer TJ will be working at IEQ Capital as a private wealth management intern, the 2026 Forbes #2 UHNW RIA.
Congrats, TJ.
