A few weeks ago Sarah and I renewed our vows. I had her tell a story because the little song I wrote for us included a line about the face that I like her ‘whole face’ which is a throwback to a response I had to a questionnaire from her bachelorette party. OtR’s “Drunkard’s Prayer” turns 21 years, released the same year we were engaged. They call it their “let’s stay together album,” which, if you’ve been married for any length of time, you know the realities. My beautiful bride and I get ready to celebrate 20 years. OtR themselves are 10 years ahead celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary, and, to be transparent, this album has meant so much to us over the years. I heard it first at the Black Swamp Festival back in Bowling Green — when I didn’t know how important transparent songs about the tensions, pains, and joys of a relationship was going to be for us as we readied ourselves for making covenant vows of our own that next year. As Sarah said last night “this is kind of our album, isn’t it?” It was like a warning shot, a lit-up billboard as we drove the road ahead, realizing that some of the impossible impasses were common to other sojourners, our precious local musicians @overtherhinemusic. Thanks for faithfully making music and being willing to be open about what it looks like to ‘want you to be my love, want you to know me now’ and sing it like a couple of people that really know what it feels like. Last night was so special for us…thanks to our good friends (and our older kids) at the house who made it happen. We got to experience the ‘healing tears’ last night. Here’s to 20 more years, babe. I want you to be my love.

Also, I’d add “Born” as the track for this post but the album not available on Zuck-book. If you’ve not heard “Born” do yourself a favor and look it up. by @chappyd1015

Ruby’s first concert! @hiforrest @coryasbury @torikelly which means 5/6 kids all have attended their first concert with dad.
Such a cool show, at one point she says “this feels like we’re at church.”
