⭐ Let’s Talk Ratings! ⭐

I was inspired by others sharing their rating guide. Ever wondered how I decide between a 3⭐️ and a 5⭐️ read?

🌟 5 Stars: Obsession-level love. I’d reread it, recommend it to everyone, and probably won’t shut up about it.

🌟 4 Stars: Great story with only a few small things I’d tweak. I’d still recommend it!

🌟 3 Stars: Enjoyable but forgettable — I liked it, but it didn’t move me.

🌟 2 Stars: Frustrating or just not for me. Had potential, but something missed the mark.

🌟 1 Star: DNF or a serious mismatch with my taste.

Q-How do you decide what makes a 5-star book?

⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ 4.5/5

I was due for an amazing read, and The Girl Behind the Gates delivered. Following young Nora’s story was heartbreaking and unforgettable. Based on true events, this book highlights the devastating misunderstanding of mental illness and the cruel, often barbaric punishments people faced for behaviors viewed as “sins.”

This story opened my eyes to a dark piece of history and reminded me why I’m falling in love with historical fiction. Emotional, thought-provoking, and inspiring, I will be thinking about this read for a long time.

The only reason it wasn’t a full 5 stars for me was that a few storylines felt unresolved, and there were some character interactions I would have loved to see explored further.

September Wrap-Up 📚
Not every reading month can be a five-star month, and September definitely wasn’t my strongest. I finished a few books, found a couple that were just okay, and reminded myself that not every read can be a new favourite.
Fever Dream - 3⭐
The Book Club for Troublesome Women - 2⭐️
Crown Me Dead - 1⭐

Now it’s time for cozy season, wrapped up in blankets reading🎃👻🍂

⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’m a sucker for a cowboy and small-town romance, but Fever Dream was just okay for me. The chemistry was there, but the whole “need money to keep the farm” storyline felt overdone and a bit predictable. Still an enjoyable read, just not one that stood out.

QOTD: What’s a trope you love but think is starting to feel repetitive?

⭐☆☆☆☆ Unpopular opinion: Crown Me Dead just wasn’t for me. Despite all the hype, I couldn’t connect with the characters or become emotionally invested in their story. While the dark atmosphere and plot had potential, the book left me feeling detached and disappointed. Unfortunately, this one missed the mark for me.

⭐⭐⭐
Home After Dark had plenty of twists and turns that kept me reading, but none of them really delivered a true “wow” moment. The creepy atmosphere and mystery were entertaining, but the ending felt less impactful than I expected. Overall, a solid thriller, just not a memorable one.

Our Perfect Storm by Carley Fortune 🌊

I really enjoyed this one! I especially loved the character development and getting to see the characters grow throughout the story. And once again, Carley Fortune’s environmental descriptions are so good—you feel completely dropped into the setting and can practically feel the atmosphere around you.

A beautifully immersive read with characters that stay with you long after the story ends.

Plot twist: my summer reading goals and my actual summer reading were not the same thing. 😂📚
This season was full of sunshine, adventures, and a lot less reading than expected. As much as I’ve loved summer, I’m secretly excited for back-to-school routines and finding my reading rhythm again.
Bring on the cozy evenings, packed lunches, and chapter-a-night habits. 🍁✨
