If you wondered what the Chapters Lit Salon was / looked like. It’s this!

We had our very first session last week and were so spoilt to have Dr Richard Leahy and Dr Sarah Martin as our first two guest lecturers. We were treated to two talks: Weird Girls and Weird Boys: The TikTokification of Literary Trends and A Court of Thoughts and Rouses: An Examination into the Popularity of Smut and Romantasy in Pop Culture.

Dr Sarah Martin had us all challenging our preconceptions about what romantasy is, why it’s so popular and what being a fan says about our culture.

And we loved Dr Richard Leahy’s sarcastic refrain of ‘what a weird girl’ as we worked through the books Goodreads had categorised under the ‘genre’. I mean, Sylvia Plath. What a weird girl.

Same again next month? We’re on it. Details will be posted here.

@peckfortonfarmdairy was one of the first suppliers we knew we wanted to work with. Not only does their milk make the best coffees, but we love the way they farm. Calves are kept with their mothers and the cows are milked just once a day - making for very happy cows and really delicious milk.

So when we were offered a tour of the farm, we jumped at the chance. It’s in the most beautiful location - even more beautiful as the sun was setting behind Beeston Castle - and it was lovely to see the calves running around and playing amongst the cows.

They’re fifth-generation farmers at Peckforton Dairy and it was so inspiring to hear from the next generation about the changes they’re making and their plans for the future.

We’re very proud to serve our coffees with Peckforton milk 🐄 taken in Chester, Cheshire by @chaptersbookbar

Threshing Day, take two.

We have a bounty of limited edition copies, a beautiful window display courtesy of @fromcaitscam and a zingy Dragonfire margarita ready to go. So, one day later than planned, we’re finally having our Threshing Day celebrations.

A huge thank you to everyone who was so patient, kind and supportive of us yesterday. It was completely out of our hands, but we still hate letting anyone down and we’re so sorry if you missed out on collecting your copy from us on release day.

Publishers, please do better and support your indie booksellers.

Anyway. The books are HERE, the margaritas are ready and we have plenty of limited editions on the shelves. Happy (belated) Threshing Day 🐉🖤 taken in Chester, Cheshire by @chaptersbookbar

And if you haven’t already pre-ordered Threshing Day, there’s still time. Pop into Chapters to guarantee your copy ready to collect on release day, 29 September. taken in Chester, Cheshire by @chaptersbookbar

Our first book-page wreath workshop was such a fun night, with everyone going home with the most gorgeous wreaths - and somehow every single one was completely unique and had its own flair. So, we’ve decided to do it all over again.

We’re teaming back up with @theimaginatorscreative for another evening of relaxed crafting, with a welcome glass of sparkling wine, because why not.

Places are limited and our last workshop sold out quickly, so run don’t walk with this one!

Tickets available via the link in bio or head to our Eventbrite page (Chapters bookshop and wine bar).

We are big fans of @vinesofcheshire so we are beyond excited to host an evening celebrating their delicious wines paired with local cheeses.

We’ll taste our way through wines they’re making just down the road in Backford, from crisp white to their traditional-method sparkling.

They’ll be telling us a little about how the vineyard came to be, what it’s actually like growing grapes in Cheshire and, most importantly, pouring the wine as we go.

No wine knowledge needed, just come for a glass and some very good cheese.

The Chapters Lit Salon brings fascinating lecturers into the bookshop to talk about the research, ideas and subjects they can’t stop thinking about.

No experience needed and no required reading. Just come curious, grab a glass of something, settle in for the talks and stay for the conversation.

We couldn’t be more excited to kick things off with Dr Richard Leahy and Dr Sarah Martin from @goldenagemysteriesltd - two brilliant (and lovely) academics who make talking lit super interesting (and fun).

Our first Lit Salon is Thurs 1 October, 7-9pm at Chapters. Tickets available via the link in our bio 🎟️ taken in Chester, Cheshire by @chaptersbookbar

We had the most fun at yesterday’s quiz, thank you to everyone who came along - and congrats to our tie-break winners 👏

Our next quiz is coming up on 7 October (7-9:30pm), and if you’re a romance, romantasy or fantasy reader this one’s for you. It’s our first (and much-requested) themed Bookish Quiz night, ‘Love and Legends’.

Tickets are now live, they go fast so run don’t walk to the link in bio 💨 taken in Chester, Cheshire by @chaptersbookbar
