Dear Beautiful Black Man,

I don’t love you just because they don’t. I don’t love you just because I know how hard you have it. I don’t love you just because you’re all over the news. I don’t love you just because any day you might not come home. I don’t love you because I have to. I love you for all reasons, all days of the week, and in all political climates.

I love you because you are part of my foundation in getting to know myself more. These times you rise and strive for the greatness they try to erase from existence even when they aren’t trying. I love you because you’re human, even when they aren’t accusing you of being an animal. I love you because you stand tall even when they aren’t trying to break you down. I love you because you show me the way even when they aren’t blocking your path.

I love you because you’re proud to be a black man even when there isn’t a national call to do so. Even when no one is watching. Even when no one else cares. Even when the world doesn’t bother to tell you you’re loved, you do everything the same.

I need you to know that I love you more than when it’s just popular too. I love you more than when it’s just a trending hashtag. I love you more than just when an enemy makes it relevant. I need you to know at all times of the day I have your back, and at all times of the night I have you in my prayers. And in all places, I have you in my heart. And in all endeavors we face, I have you by my side. I will never go forward without you. Black man, this world can’t go forward without you. I need you to know that you are loved more than when you just die. I need you to know that your life matters more than when it’s just plastered onto a t-shirt.

I need you to know you are held up by ME, more than just when social media praises it. You have the power to change the world. And I will ALWAYS love you. Despite everyone who doesn’t.

Growing up, I thought I knew who Little Richard was.
:
I knew the voice. I knew the flamboyance. I knew the screams, the pompadour, and the larger-than-life personality. But after watching “Little Richard: I Am Everything” I realized I only knew the legend on the surface.
:
What I discovered was a revolutionary.
:
A Black queer artist who kicked down doors and built the blueprint for Rock 'n' Roll long before so many others reaped the rewards. An innovator whose fingerprints are all over the music we celebrate today. The energy, the performance, the freedom, the rebellion, the showmanship… Little Richard wasn't just participating in Rock 'n' Roll. He helped create its heartbeat.

The documentary made me appreciate him even more, not just for the hits, but for the sacrifices, the contradictions, and the undeniable influence he had on generations of artists.

History has a funny way of hiding its architects. Thankfully, some stories refuse to stay buried.

Working with a group is already a skill within itself, but working with brothers? That’s a whole different rhythm. You learn quickly that every personality moves differently. One brother might need structure, another needs space, another needs reassurance, and another just wants everything handled before he even asks. The real job becomes learning how to create balance while building trust with each individual and the group as a whole.
:
It taught me A LOT of patience 🥊🤣, communication, problem solving, and how important energy / time management is behind the scenes. Touring isn’t just bookings and room keys. It’s understanding people, protecting peace, and making sure everyone can show up as their best selves once it’s time to hit that stage 🙏🏽🤞🏽✨

My aunt told me about this movie A Soldier’s Story last week and I just finished watching it last night. Not only did I love the writing and the cast but it was BOLD!!!
The film unpacks internalized racism, politics, and the quiet violence of power turned inward in which are themes that still ripple through boardrooms, creative spaces, and communities today. Sergeant Waters’ belief that survival requires reshaping Black identity feels aligned with modern conversations about code switching and assimilation.

It confronts what happens when leadership becomes ego, when silence replaces healing, and when justice depends on who is believed.

The music industry used to make stars. Now it just makes “content.” In the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, you couldn’t escape the gravitational pull of real artistry—when an album drop felt like an event and not just something you scrolled past between memes. Artists weren’t just famous; they were cultural landmarks.
:
Now here’s the irony—people fight tooth and nail to get into this business, chasing the magic they grew up on… and then once they’re inside, they realize it’s more corporate boardroom than creative playground. Suddenly, the thing they loved feels like a job they hate—because instead of building worlds, they’re chasing playlists, trends, and algorithms. The industry got so obsessed with engineering “hits” that it stopped producing icons. You can’t algorithm your way into timelessness.

Another problem? A lot of artists don’t want to listen anymore. The greats studied the game—they understood the crowd, learned the craft, and evolved. Now, too many just drop something and expect the world to magically gravitate toward it because “I’m talented.” But artistry isn’t just about creating—it’s about connection, strategy, and intention.

The icons of the past didn’t just release music; they built entire worlds people wanted to live in. Skip that part, and your song might make noise for a week… but it won’t echo for a lifetime.

The movie “Girl You Know It’s True” is a great biopic because it doesn’t just dramatize the rise and fall of Milli Vanilli—it exposes the deep-rooted ILLUSIONS within the music industry. “People listen with their eyes” was such an important line in the movie. It peeled back the glossy, manufactured image of fame to show how an industry obsessed with profit and perfection can chew people up and spit them out.

Rather than painting Rob and Fab as villains, the film humanizes them. It shows that they wanted to be real artists. They wanted to sing. They wanted to earn their success authentically. But the system wasn’t built for that kind of honesty.
:
One of the film’s most powerful moments is how no one—not the managers, not the producers, not the record label executives—ever stopped the facade. Everyone knew the truth, but no one said anything. Why? Because the machine was making too much money.
:
Rob and Fab were caught in the middle. Two young black men coming from Germany / Paris in the 80s and eager dreamers was sold the illusion of stardom, only to be discarded once the lie unraveled.

The film highlights that it wasn’t just about lip-syncing—it was about exploitation, manipulation, and the silence that money can buy.
