After a three-year wait, I finally have the picture I've been longing for. I remember the worldwide celebration when I became the first woman to win the Africa Prize of Engineering.

What a beautiful memory it is! 🥹🥹

Today, as I hold this cherished Gold medal, it represents what I consider my most treasured achievement. This medal symbolizes the countless women in the engineering industry who, like me, have worked hard to break barriers and pave the way for a brighter future. I'm inspired to keep pushing boundaries and inspiring others on this incredible journey. 🌟🏅💪

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Royal Academy of Engineering for their ongoing support. I am proud to be part of this family. 🙏🏿🙏🏿

To all those who supported me, provided opportunities for me to work, learn, grow, and trusted me along the way . You all have played a significant role in shaping the woman I am today. Thank You once again 🙏🏿

I’m proud to be part of the founding board of @afrokwary.ai as we officially introduce our vision. 🌍🚀🚀🚀🚀

Over the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of solving local challenges, building companies, driving innovation, and contributing to the deployment of emerging technologies across Africa.

As an engineer, one thing has become increasingly clear to me: meaningful innovation begins with research. Whether it takes place in universities, research institutes, industry, startups, or independent labs, research is the foundation upon which we build solutions that shape the future.

One year ago, we soft launched #Afrokwary with a clear purpose: to elevate African research and innovation, amplify African voices in science and technology, and create a space where ideas and discoveries from the continent receive the visibility they deserve. We intentionally took our time to refine our vision, and lay strong foundations. Today, we’re proud to officially introduce Afrokwary and invite more minds to join us.

Afrokwary was created to challenge misconceptions about Africa’s role in scientific advancement.

Our mission is to advance research and development, promote responsible innovation, highlight African excellence in engineering and science, and contribute to conversations that will shape the future.

This is only the beginning.🌱

I am deeply grateful to everyone who encouraged us to take Afrokwary beyond a small circle and share it with a wider audience.Your belief in this vision gave us the confidence to take this next step.🥹

A little fact about me: I won my first hackathon in 2015.🥇

Hackathons have always been some of my favourite spaces to experiment and, most importantly, build.

They give you permission to test an idea, solve a problem under pressure, work with people you’ve just met, and turn “what if?” into something you can actually show.

That’s why I’m excited about Come Build with AI on September 27, co-organized by GOMYCODE and NVIDIA.

Come with your favourite teammates or build solo. You can join online or from a GOMYCODE space across 8 markets.

Plus, participants will have access to a US$12,500 NVIDIA Brev GPU-compute pool to help bring their ideas to life.

Amini will be there not only as a partner but also to cheer on all the builders, and I’ll be joining the jury too. I can’t wait to see what people create when they have 11 hours, access to AI and compute, and a problem they want to solve.

A journey of resilience, excellence, and purpose. 🇨🇮

When we talk about people who are actively shaping the future of Africa, Aboubakar Karim is one of them.

Karim is the founder of Investiv , an Ivorian agritech company working at the intersection of agriculture, technology, drones and data.

For years, Karim and his team have been supporting farmers and organizations to map, monitor and better manage farms using drones, in Côte d’Ivoire and across Africa. His work has also received international recognition, including Côte d’Ivoire’s National Excellence Award for Best Young Entrepreneur in 2021.

Investiv has also been one of our partners in our agricultural data workstream in Côte d’Ivoire. Their field expertise has helped us map more than 10,000 farms and collect critical agricultural data on the ground. It has been a process with a lot of learning for both organisations.

And this collaboration is a great reminder of something I strongly believe in: Making impact in Africa does not always require importing capacity from outside the continent.

In my work leading our AI ecosystem efforts, I’ve had the opportunity to see first hand the value of working and collaborating with local partners across the Global South. Together, we bring the expertise, networks and understanding of the local context that are essential to creating lasting impact.

Today, alongside his work at Investiv, Karim has expanded his activities to help close the access gap to drone technology across Africa, enabling more organisations to access and deploy drones while benefiting from Investiv’s expertise to leverage the technology for greater impact.

I wish more leaders would trust, invest in and partner with African talent and companies to solve our challenges.

So please, don’t tell us the capacity doesn’t exist.

It does.

What we need is the opportunity and the trust.
