3️⃣ In Lisa Ivory's 'Tapestry', a central figure suggestive of a Siren dominates the composition. In Greek mythology, Sirens were renowned for their beauty and irresistible singing, which lured passing sailors towards shipwreck and death. ㅤ Beneath the curtain, a female figure washes away a skull. As is often the case in Ivory's work, she takes defiant action. Watched over by the Siren, a symbol of transformation, freedom, and mortality, she enacts a ritual of purification by washing away the presence of Death. ㅤ Hit the Project Papyrophilia link in bio to collect online. ㅤ Lisa Ivory ‘Tapestry’, 2026 Oil on Arches paper 31 × 23 cm (12.2 × 9.1 in) £300 ㅤ Released alongside the group exhibition: ‘Impermanence’ Through Friday 20 November 2026 Monday–Friday 10am–5pm Gramercy Park Studios, 25 Great Pulteney Street, Soho, London W1F 9LT ㅤ @lisaivory888 @projectpapyrophilia @charliesmithldn ㅤ . ㅤ #lisaivory #siren #greekmythology #contemporaryart #artcollectors ㅤ by @charliesmithldn
4️⃣ New Lisa Ivory work on paper depicting Pasiphae. In Greek mythology, the Queen of Crete and daughter of the sun god Helios, Pasiphae is best known as mother of the Minotaur. By returning Pasiphae to the centre of the myth, Ivory foregrounds the story of a woman and mother, whose fate was shaped by desire, divine punishment, and the fateful actions of others. ㅤ Hit the Project Papyrophilia link in bio to collect online. ㅤ Lisa Ivory ‘Pasiphae’, 2026 Oil on Arches paper 31 × 23 cm (12.2 × 9.1 in) £300 ㅤ Released alongside the group exhibition: ‘Impermanence’ Through Friday 20 November 2026 Monday–Friday 10am–5pm Gramercy Park Studios, 25 Great Pulteney Street, Soho, London W1F 9LT ㅤ @lisaivory888 @projectpapyrophilia @charliesmithldn ㅤ . ㅤ #lisaivory #pasiphae #greekmythology #contemporaryart #artcollectors ㅤ by @charliesmithldn

Leaning into her Gothic influences, Lisa Ivory’s ‘Following the Ragman’ draws on the trope of the ruin. Decaying classical buildings recurred in Gothic art, literature, and architecture as symbols of the passage of time, the fragility of human achievement, the power of nature, and the unsettling presence of the past. ㅤ The ragman operated on the fringes of society, collecting discarded materials such as rags and bones to sell for reuse. Once associated with poverty and social marginality, today this practice has a contemporary parallel in the widespread resale of unwanted possessions. What was once discarded can find new value in someone else’s hands. ㅤ For enquiries DM @charliesmithldn ㅤ ‘Following the Ragman’, 2024 Oil on panel 20 x 25 cm (7.9 x 9.8 in) ㅤ Released alongside our group exhibition: ‘Impermanence’ Through Friday 20 November 2026 Monday–Friday 10am–5pm Gramercy Park Studios, 25 Great Pulteney Street, Soho, London W1F 9LT ㅤ @lisaivory888 @charliesmithldn ㅤ . ㅤ #lisaivory #contemporaryart #landscapepainting #gothicart #artcollectors ㅤ by @charliesmithldn
Asking more questions than it answers, Lisa Ivory’s painting 'Bone' depicts a skeletal figure on horseback carrying a standard, while a dog ironically chases a discarded bone. ㅤ Flags represent a nation, a cause, or a collective identity, while the battle standard carries the further association of allegiance unto death. Here, the flag bears a female nude, which for Ivory represents both a promise and a temptation, raising the question of whether what we pursue leads to liberation or our own downfall. ㅤ For enquiries DM @charliesmithldn ㅤ 'Bone', 2026 Oil on paper on panel 30 x 24 cm (11.8 x 9.4 in) ㅤ Released alongside our group exhibition: ‘Impermanence’ Through Friday 20 November 2026 Monday–Friday 10am–5pm Gramercy Park Studios, 25 Great Pulteney Street, Soho, London W1F 9LT ㅤ @lisaivory888 @charliesmithldn ㅤ . ㅤ #lisaivory #contemporaryart #oilpainting #artcollectors #figurativeart ㅤ by @charliesmithldn
Introducing a larger-scale work, ‘As Time Goes By’ is a classic Lisa Ivory painting. Three nude figures bathe in the foreground of an idyllic, painterly landscape. Tossing a skull into the air, the central figure playfully reminds us that death is ever-present but need not be feared. ㅤ For enquiries DM @charliesmithldn ㅤ ‘As Time Goes By', 2026 Oil on paper on panel 30 x 24 cm (11.8 x 9.4 in) ㅤ Released alongside our group exhibition: ‘Impermanence’ Through Friday 20 November 2026 Monday–Friday 10am–5pm Gramercy Park Studios, 25 Great Pulteney Street, Soho, London W1F 9LT ㅤ @lisaivory888 @charliesmithldn ㅤ . ㅤ #lisaivory #contemporaryart #oilpainting #artcollectors #figurativeart ㅤ by @charliesmithldn
CHARLIE SMITH LONDON is pleased to present new paintings by Lisa Ivory, released alongside our group exhibition ‘Impermanence’. ㅤ In these works, a dominant central figure is depicted on a stage curtain bearing objects from antiquity. At its hem, a nude woman sweeps a skull away. Ivory describes the curtain as both backdrop and threshold, suggesting that life itself is a veil between what is visible and what lies beneath. ㅤ For enquiries DM @charliesmithldn ㅤ ‘Orderliness of the Cosmos’, 2026 Oil on panel 20 x 15 cm (7.9 x 5.9 in) ㅤ ‘Water Nymph’, 2026 Oil on panel 20 x 15 cm (7.9 x 5.9 in) ㅤ ‘Impermanence’ Through Friday 20 November 2026 Monday–Friday 10am–5pm Gramercy Park Studios, 25 Great Pulteney Street, Soho, London W1F 9LT ㅤ @lisaivory888 @charliesmithldn ㅤ . ㅤ #lisaivory #contemporaryart #oilpainting #artcollectors #figurativeart ㅤ by @charliesmithldn
'Impermanence' brings together artists whose works engage, directly or indirectly, with the unstable relationship between object and experience, persistence and disappearance. Together, they ask what remains, and what does not. ㅤ Joanna Whittle’s practice explores how landscape holds traces of history, memory, and human activity. Drawing on the traditions of Romantic landscape painting, she creates psychologically charged worlds in which the familiar becomes uncertain and the past remains present in altered forms. Her work considers the fragility of the structures through which we make sense of our place in the world, and what survives as they change. ㅤ Joanna Whittle 'Gateway (Kippfiguren, Just Judges)', 2026 Oil on canvas 18 x 24 cm (7.1 x 9.4 in) ㅤ See it @charliesmithldn in: ㅤ 'Impermanence' Emma Bennett, Kirsty Harris, Lisa Ivory, Melissa Kime, Concha Martínez Barreto, Hugh Mendes, Richard Moon, Gavin Nolan, Dominic Shepherd, Joanna Whittle Through Friday 20 November 2026 Monday–Friday 10am-5pm 25 Great Pulteney Street, Soho, London W1F 9LT ㅤ . ㅤ #joannawhittle #landscapepainting #romanticism #contemporaryart #artcollector by @charliesmithldn
‘There, There’ by Gavin Nolan doubles the biblical figure Samson, transforming an archetype of hyper-masculine strength into an image of tenderness, vulnerability, and self-regard. Power turns inward: seduction becomes self-seduction, love becomes self-love, and the distinction between dominance and surrender begins to collapse. Is Samson comforting himself, seducing himself, or betraying himself? Is the gesture an embrace or a choke-hold? ㅤ Within this closed circuit, strength both cradles and threatens itself, with power finding its ultimate expression in self-annihilation. The title echoes the doubled figure: ‘there, there’ offers reassurance, but can also suggest condescension or command, leaving tenderness and control uneasily intertwined. ㅤ Gavin Nolan 'There, There (Study)', 2026 Oil on canvas 40 x 50 cm (15.7 x 19.7 in) ㅤ See it @charliesmithldn in: ㅤ 'Impermanence' Emma Bennett, Kirsty Harris, Lisa Ivory, Melissa Kime, Concha Martínez Barreto, Hugh Mendes, Richard Moon, Gavin Nolan, Dominic Shepherd, Joanna Whittle Through Friday 20 November 2026 Monday–Friday 10am-5pm 25 Great Pulteney Street, Soho, London W1F 9LT ㅤ . ㅤ #samson #biblicalart #biblestories #contemporaryart #artcollector by @charliesmithldn
To preserve an artwork is also to preserve the possibility of encountering its sensation: to maintain the material conditions through which something made in the past can continue to act in the present. Collecting can therefore be understood not simply as the preservation of objects, but as the preservation of experience. ㅤ Melissa Kime's first self-portrait is on show now in 'Impermanence'. ㅤ Melissa Kime 'My summer', 2026 Oil & oil pastel on board 28 x 36 cm (11 x 14.2 in) ㅤ See it @charliesmithldn in: ㅤ 'Impermanence' Emma Bennett, Kirsty Harris, Lisa Ivory, Melissa Kime, Concha Martínez Barreto, Hugh Mendes, Richard Moon, Gavin Nolan, Dominic Shepherd, Joanna Whittle Through Friday 20 November 2026 Monday–Friday 10am-5pm 25 Great Pulteney Street, Soho, London W1F 9LT ㅤ . ㅤ #selfportrait #portraitpainting #folkart #contemporaryart #artcollector by @charliesmithldn
