My July Hopefuls! ✨

While last months hopefuls went off the rails, I am prepared to stick to these!

We have on the menu:
The kings of Kearny by Navessa Allen for our book of the month at @cbrromancefantasybookclub
Painted Hearts by Bec George which I was lucky enough to get a signed copy from @astoriacanberra
Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins *insert it is time meme* which is my buddy read with @bella_1141x because the lord knows I can not do this on my own.
Harvest Season by Brynne Weaver as my audio book for the month, I just can't escape this universe!

June Reading Wrap up 📖

It was a big month for me, new job, finishing my course, and so much more!

I still managed to read 4 books this month even if 2 of them are audio!

I had a pretty even reading month, with only one book not meeting my expectations... For a vampire book, it was fairly surface level. However, if you are after pallet cleanser, The Book of Blood and Roses would be a good read!

Smoke and Scar was an amazing read, its rating only being affected by how long it took me to get into the book. I do put this up to just my mood at the time... but if you are after a SLOW BURNNNNNNNN this book is for you!

Tourist season was just a good time and I am loving this universe @brynne_weaver is building! The audio was good but I feel if I also just read it, like I did Butcher and Blackbird, it would not have affected my rating at all.

Finally, the bonus chapter for the @cbrromancefantasybookclub was Fever Dream and also was my first @authorelsiesilver book. Please note: I will be buying all of her books! The writing was amazing and the story was such a good time! I do feel the audio may have contributed to my rating... if you know, you know... but either way a great fun read!

I can not wait for next month as I am doing a good buddy read for Sunrise on the Reaping.. I am not prepared for the emotional trauma but it must be done!

The Knight And The Moth by Rachel Gillig ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“It sounds awful when I say it out loud." "True things often do.” 📖

This was completely different from anything I’ve read before. The gods, the concept, the atmosphere. Everything felt so unique and it kept me captivated the entire time.

Sybil Delling has spent nine years serving as a Diviner in the kingdom of Traum, dreaming visions sent by six unearthly Omens. As she nears the end of her service, a heretical (and frustratingly attractive) knight, Rodrick, arrives. When her fellow Diviners begin to vanish, Sybil is forced to work with him, because sometimes, only a heretic can challenge a god.

For a shorter book (and part of a duet), I think it balanced detail really well. It leaves you wanting more while still feeling complete. The characters were developed enough that their motivations felt clear and believable, which isn’t always easy in a story of this length.

Sybil and Rodrick’s dynamic felt natural despite the mythical romance. They grow, struggle, and learn together in a way that makes their relationship feel grounded rather than forced.

And the gargoyle, easily my favourite. It starts off as that sweet, wholesome side character, but evolves into something so much more meaningful as the story unfolds.

The pacing was steady and perfectly suited to the length. Once everything kicked into gear, I genuinely struggled to put it down. The magic system and concepts of challenging one to their craft was a interesting take on a duel and not one I am complaining about.

Maybe the real Bartholomew was the friends we made along the way ⚒️

Alchemised is a dark fantasy set in a war-torn world, following Helena and Kaine as they navigate survival, power, and identity. Told across multiple timelines and split into three parts, it slowly reveals how war, memory, and choice shape everything and not everything can be so black and white.
5 stars feels almost meaningless, this is easily one of my top books of all time.

I went into this expecting something more like a fan fiction, something easier to hold. It wasn’t that. Not even close.

This is a dark story that dives deep into the psychological effects and brutal reality of war. The author doesn’t shy away from it at all, and that’s what makes it feel so heavy… and so important unlike other fantasy novels.

The structure is incredible. Part one leaves you confused and devastated alongside Helena. Part two takes you back in time, slowly piecing everything together and somehow making it hurt more whenever I think of Kaine. The time jumps are done so well and genuinely enhance the story.

The world-building is masterful and fantasy at its finest. I wanted to learn the language of alchemical runes and study the science myself.

The book settles in your chest and stays there. I actually happened to be filming when I finished it, but the reaction didn’t come straight away. It was delayed, but once it hit and the tears came I could not stop.

This isn’t a fluffy read. Please read the trigger warnings and take them seriously.

But if you’re willing to meet it where it is… it will stay with you. 🥀🖤
