I wrote about things in here that I wasn’t sure about sharing. I grew up being called the r word because I think differently. I got called the f word because I’m sensitive. My stomach would turn when people would say mean things. Certain violence disturbed me. When reading books I could see what authors described. I hated Bud Not Buddy and Roll for Thunder Hear My Cry because I could see Bud getting beat up and them eating clay and I knew that the world around me wasn’t so distant. I was in Second Grade when I watched Malcolm X and my mother taught me about Emmitt Till. I was aware of the violence we go through physically, mentally, and spiritually.

This book means a lot to me. I don’t say everything the right way. And I am still learning how to be an author. How to format it. How to market it. How to celebrate it. But I’m doing it. I love doing it. And I don’t plan on quitting.

From the alley to the lot, we were scootin, kicking rocks,
scraping knees, playing robbers as we ran away from cops.

“Tag, freeze, you it”, you didn’t touch me stupid, “i just did”, huggie juice with chips, sticky fingers get licked, we were just those kids, ashy knees, chapped lips, it all went so quick.
