We unexpectedly lost our best buddy, Rocko. He was running around in the snow one moment like his derpy self — and then, two weeks of ER trips later, he was gone.

The house has been eerily quiet. No alert system for package deliveries. His dog bed for the art studio just arrived and now sits empty. There are no Grinch toes tip tapping across the wood floors, no eyes begging for food, no stinky dog breath waking us up in the morning for cuddles and breakfast. No shadow following from room to room.

Grief moves strangely. We’ve begun to accept the loss, yet habit lingers. I’ll bite into a carrot and swear I hear the “thump-thump-thump” of paws on the stairs. I’ll stand there, holding out a piece for Rocko — as if the world hasn’t shifted. And then the wave comes, in the smallest, most ordinary moment.

We used to tell Rocko, “You’re such a good boy, even when you’re not — especially when you’re not,” which was most of the time. 😂 Our silly, prancy, barky boy — Bark O’bama, Rocko Taco, Fry Guy, always wearing his fancy boots. Our best friend. We love you, Rocko Pooper.

Exciting announcement! I’ve been hard at work making new cards and a new online shop! Most of my shop/card posts will now live @charmingstudio_shop, but I wanted to share this accomplishment on the main grid over here. Now more than ever we need some colorful joy, human connection, and to tell the folks in our lives we are thinking of them. 💖✨

I am so excited to announce the Hello Dog/Hello Human by @saralevinebooks has been selected for the Society of Illustrators 45th Original Art Show. Thanks to my amazing art director @charmingstudio_ny for all the love you put into this book and my editor @emilyfeinberg who gave me room to go wild with style, color and process. This book was so fun telling two stories in one. One is the point of View of a Dog picking their first human and you flip the book to tell the same story of a Human picking their first dog.
