Thermostat box replaced for a customer. Couldn’t gain access to the inside of the old box meaning the heaters couldn’t be tested at the correct intervals. Inside of the stat box was cleaned prior to closing the lid 😎

Some torpedos the other day ⚡️
Called to site for shutdown work. In this case Inspection remedials, this was flagged as an FI (excessive Zs) Carried out initial tests at a control panel for a sump pump and confirmed a high Zs with a pfc of 1 amp and L1 /L2 at dead short between eachother…

We found 2 existing joints in the cable, both looking worse for wear (no pictures of the old joint that exits the ducting immediately unfortunately) we first tested the continuity of the armouring being used at the cpc before both joints. The first joint passed with 0.1ohms of resistance from start of joint to control panel this led us to believe that both issues would’ve occurred in the first joint on the fence. We removed the joint and made off a new one. We tested continuity of the armouring and we recorded 0.76 ohms from db to control panel. We then attempted to carry out all dead tests to ensure it was safe to energise… L1 and L2 were still dead short between each other. After literally wiggling the other old joint and receiving mixed readings depending on the position of it we replaced that too. Then once again tested ensuring it was safe to energise. My first 2 torpedo joints out in the field and was happy with the job.

Fault finding an extractor fan that wasn’t running. Disconnected the motor and links and tested through the motor windings where we found no damage internally. Next we disconnected the VSD and DV/DT filter to test the cable outgoing to the motor it’s self, this is where we found a dead short from L2 to Earth resulting in the vsd tripping and taking out the whole plant. Left the cable disconnected and made safe inside the control panel.

Lighting job carried out some new external lighting for the customer. Cable run made ever difficult by never ending plant traffic and fencing trying to sabotage the route. Was actually going to do a video with me doing voice overs etc but genuinely didn’t have the time to stop and record too much so here’s what I captured 📸 also rip 10mm ratcheting spanner 🙏

These last few years have moved far too fast, it’s unbelievable. With my portfolio now submitted, the apprenticeship is finally coming to the end. What an experience it’s been so far, and I’m forever grateful for the opportunity to take part in the controlled chaos of being an industrial electrician apprentice. Plenty more to come! Another EICR Remedial from today. Was issued to be replaced due to the severe corrosion both internally and externally. New stainless steel enclosure fitted. Minor works issued. Bosh ✅

Old corroded isolator pulled up on an EICR to be replaced. Out with the old and in with the new, stainless steel enclosure installed in its place. Good job, lovely bit of graft for a Monday. Minor works cert issued. ✅

Anyone smell burning?

On site to repair a Code 1 defect of a severely burnt phase on this ABB isolator! Isolating the supply and disconnecting all cables then replacing the unit. On phase 2 we found the original terminations to be super loose. I dropped both glands out of the panel and made the cables off lower to allow us to terminate non toasted cables. Everything re glanded and terminated to correct torque specifications. Upon testing we found no unusual imbalance between phases when under load. #electricianlife⚡️ #sparky #electrical #industrial #asphalt by @charthespark

Looks good from my house?

Sent in to disconnect some temporary welfare units all wired to the same main rotary isolator. The welfare units included 3x drying room units, canteen, toilet and managers office. The welfare units were there for approx 8-12 weeks, long time to leave an instal in the condition. All supplies fed from the a singular MCCB, and wedged into a single terminal. Might be a temporary supply but the damage it can leave will be permanent. by @charthespark

A job from 2 weeks ago the installation of 2x EV chargers… (the 2nd failed when being set up at the office) tricky job with little access in the ceiling. Job looks pukka and awaiting the 2nd charging unit arriving. Wired in EV ultra so that the customer could get us back to install a load balancer at any time.

EV Charger install over the last 2 days, looks pukka. 55 m of 10 mm 5c SWA. First time using the megger ev charger adaptor allowing us to simulate charging a vehicle and collecting real time readings. Good finish for the normal working week, bosh ✅
