Tides have a huge impact on redfish and their feeding behavior. In the South Carolina Lowcountry, those extreme tidal swings mean you have to stay flexible—adjusting your tactics based on timing…and sometimes this simply means you have to be willing to wait it out!

Another Mahi in the boat!

This past Sunday (05/18) I was joined by @catch.716 and @niagarafishing as we made our way out to Deli Ledge, approximately 65 miles SE of Beaufort, SC. The weather was a bit spunkier than forecasted with seas about 3 to 3.5 at 7 seconds, regardless, we pressed on. Upon arriving at the ledge, we did a few passes having a Wahoo come unglued from our @nomadtackle_usa DTX. After this, we continued moving SE to deeper and warmer water where we found this singular Mahi in 77 °F and 240 foot depth. This was the cold side of a weed line about a mile past us. We pushed out to the weed line and trolled the warm side (78 °F) with no bites. There were tons of baitfish and flying fish around but we still didn’t have any additional bites. If I could go back I would have trolled this weed line longer than we did.

On our way in, we stopped at R7 Navy Tower to let the boys tug on some Amberjack and they crushed it. Another solid day in the books, however, I will be hoping for more Mahi to show up as the season progresses.
