For years people thought the beanie was branding.Truthfully… it started as insecurity.I was embarrassed I was going bald and never admitted it.I had lost my business.Terrible break up happened at the same time. That’s just the start…. I thought really I was someone no one needed in their life. I would support people from afar and love to see them succeed but didn’t want to get too close… I didn’t want to ruin them. I had convinced myself everything I touched seemed to crumble. I just wanted to see other people smile… Suddenly that beanie became part of who I was.What people didn’t know was during that same season of life, I was fighting battles internally that almost took me out completely.The night I woke up in a hospital bed, still wearing that rolled black beanie, I joked through tears:“The Beanie Stays On.”That quote stopped meaning fashion a long time ago.Now it means:keep going.stay here.survive the night.one more breath.one more morning.Men’s Mental Health Month matters.It’s getting worse. A lot of men are drowning silently while still making everyone laugh.Check on your people.Even the strong ones.#thebeaniestayson by @chasetheroper
