Ecclesiastes 3:1-12

“We easily welcome change when it comes in the leaves,
chasing and admiring the beauty in colorful trees.
But we’re often so harsh when change comes to us.
Pushing it away, or asking from it far too much.
In the same way we find joy in the cool autumn breeze,
Friends, be gentle with the change in your story please.”

Ephesians 1:10

“Through the sunflowers we go,
Deeper into the mystery
Chasing after the plan He has for me.
Into sunshine we step,
To soak our bare skin
In the grace He is bathing us in.
With the summer breeze we rush,
Bringing a cooling, sweet relief
To the scorching, suffering souls we meet.
Alongside the butterflies we float,
With peace through the unknown
Until the day He calls us home.
Through the sunflowers we go.”

Matthew 6:34

“Here is where He has you.

There are hearts to be loved here,
And challenges to face.
There are lessons to be learned here,
If we cooperate with grace.
Even when the seasons seem slow,
Make the choice not to worry.
His timing is perfect,
There is no need to hurry.
Everything will work for our good,
Even if we can’t possibly see how.
Here is where He has you,
So just let now be now.”

James 1:22
.
“I don’t want to exist merely to rest. I want to be tested. There is something greater in the trials. An adventure to embark upon. Work to get done. Lives to change. Hearts to love. All of these things come from the uncomfortable. Be unsettled. Root yourself in the unexpected.” -MGH

Romans 12:12
.
“There is beauty in this stillness. There is hope in this unknown. There is a Father who will bring goodness from your quarantined home.
.
There is sunshine to been seen peaking through these dark grey clouds. There are still, small whispers to be heard because, for once, the world is not so loud.
.
There is redemption in this suffering. There is revelation in these trials. There is normalcy to return to, it just may take a little while.” -MGH

Isaiah 40:31
.
“She rests in the hope that’s kept within,
The very depths of her being.
As she sits in the gaze of the one,
whose love is deep and freeing.
.
She knows it’s hard to keep in mind,
that her beauty comes not from this world,
But in the quiet whispers of the one who says,
‘You are my beloved little girl.’
.
She runs to him and pushes on,
Until she’s almost out of breath.
His arms, her refuge, as her heartbeat,
Falls to match the rhythm of his chest.
.
She rests, at last, with him,
Whose very flesh and blood have bought her.
He gave it all for her-who looks up and sighs.
‘Thank you my dear Father.’“ -MGH

A play on C.S. Lewis’ “Screwtape Letters" written by Rev. Aaron Michael Nielsen

My Dear Wormwood,

Plagues are a most effective weapon given to us by our father below. Normally, Christians are quite comfortable in receiving the dreaded sacraments and gathering in their prayers and other heinous Arts. But if you can stir up a hysteria by means of a plague so that they cut themselves off from our enemies gifts to them, the torment of isolation will drive them to despair and season them quite deliciously much to our delight.

Get them to forget about their usual practices of prayer, fasting and alms giving and encourage them to become gluttons, slanderers, and lose all regard for their neighbor thinking only about themselves and their immediate needs. Storing up treasures which we can send moth and rust to destroy further sweetening their torment.

If you can, help them to redefine their usual words like “church” and “fellowship” and “ministry” so that they feel comfortable cutting themselves off from our enemies care and they can be tempted all the more.

Yes, Wormwood, a plague is a tried and true method of taking their eyes off our enemy and getting them to worship their own bodies. A most desirable position for we tempters. Never let a good crisis go to waste!

Your Affectionate Uncle,

Screwtape

Psalm 46:5
.
I’ve been thinking about the feminine genius a lot lately. How women are crafted so perfectly to complement men and how we truly complete one another. There are so many unique and beautiful gifts that only women posses, and the world needs them. The world needs our nurturing spirits, our gentleness, kindness, humility, courage, strength, conviction and joy. Women, we are the crown of creation. We have so much to offer. We must let men be men while we work to discover all of the riches and beauty that encompass being women. Happy #internationalwomensday

Romans 5:8
.
“Love is not just a feeling. Love is not something fragile or fleeting. In fact, love is not a something at all. Love is a someone. A someone who is gentle. And romantic. And completely fulfilling. A someone who waits patiently. A someone who denied His royalty in exchange for our rejection. A someone who has holes in His hands and a gash in His side where He poured out every bit of Himself for you. A someone who so deeply desires the poorest of hearts.” -MGH

In honor of Valentine’s Day I thought I’d share my most recent piece reminding us that there is no greater love than that of our Lord. You are chosen. You are enough. You are loved.

unimaginable growth and beauty. Perhaps there is no way to be perfectly ready. Perhaps we must wait.

“Take notice in the moments you’re the most undeniably happy, the ones where you experience true, unbridled joy. And keep choosing those.” -MGH

This might be one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever done. This is definitely a goal of mine in 2020: to find the people, places, and things that make me the most happy and keep choosing them.
