What a brilliant event for my first official half marathon , everything fell into place, even the weather was perfect, the route was stunning , the organisation impeccable, the crowd support amazing and the 14 weeks of training really paid off , I had no real expectations of times but somehow managed to shave over 28 minutes off my unofficial HM time so i’m absolutely delighted with that! Me even 1 year ago would have laughed if you told me i would be entering and running races let alone running half marathons.

Fifteen months ago age 51 my daughter told me I should try couch to 5k , I had lost over 4 stone and was looking for ways to tone up and maintain my weight loss. I went out for my first run and it near killed me 🤣 but I stuck with it and unbelievably completed the programme in 9 weeks. Along the way I fell in love with running , signed up to parkrun and earlier this year when @abdnmarathon announced a half marathon I signed up. 14 weeks of half marathon training along with a couple of short races thrown in for good measure and I find myself now having to actually run the race I signed up for 🤣 I am slightly nervous but also excited for my first half marathon race experience, i’m under no illusion and know my pace is nothing to shout about so the plan is just to make it to the end , 13.1 miles/21.1k is a long way for anyone so to be able to say I have ran an official half marathon and have a medal to show for it will be more than enough. We did this one for the Tartan Army Scott Mctominay medal 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Up and Running 5k at Duthie Park in Aberdeen today , a few seconds off getting my sub 30 5k but 2nd in my category so I will take that as a win , it was also my daughters first raceday and she absolutely smashed it! @upandrunningevents #running #medal #aberdeen #scotland #run taken in Aberdeen by @chasing_coffee_and_cake

I will always be available to run for coffee but will always prefer to support a local business to a chain , here are some of my favourite places in Aberdeen.

@fat_batch -Elmbank Terrace -, some of the best ice coffee and iced matcha in Aberdeen, friendly and welcoming with passion poured into every drink, I challenge you to resist their sweet treats 😋

@kavastreetcoffee on the beach front , hands down my favourite, fantastic selection of coffee, matcha, hot chocolate, smoothies and mocktails, flavours change with the seasons but you won’t find anywhere with a selection like this, every cup is an absolute work of art!

@thecraftsmanaberdeen - Guild Street - A cosy ale and coffee house with a warm friendly vibe , great coffee and the almond croissant is to die for , great place to relax after a run.

@tost.abz - Upperkirk Gate - A great wee cafe offering a small but delicious menu , always welcoming even when extremely busy , fab selection of coffee and matcha flavours that taste great , good selection of sweet treats too 😋

@grub.spital.schoolhill - Spital Walk - This place is a vibe with the best selection of baguettes , wraps , panini’s and salad fillings , great selection of coffee and matcha flavours with a regular special flavour.
