JUST ANNOUNCED 📣

10/9 Chastity Brown featuring Laurels String Quartet

The Parkway is thrilled to once again present @chastity_brown performing along with the @laurelsstringquartet Based in Minnesota, but with roots in Tennessee, Chastity Brown grew up surrounded by country and soul music. While her roots are in the gospel church and blues of her childhood, she has bloomed in Minneapolis, her home of 20 years, expanding her sound to incorporate the musical sounds of the city that would eventually land her at home on stage with Prince’s New Power Generation. She has been featured in NPR’s “Favorite Sessions,” CMT, American Songwriter, the London Times and Paste Magazine. Chastity has toured the U.S. and abroad, including appearing on the U.K.’s Later…with Jools Holland.

There was a permission or rather an invitation given when Kendrick said ‘i grieve different.’ We all do. For some of us it’s a wailing and vibrant shakes of our body. While for others it’s quiet, no sound, just the lived experience of feeling broken…a present ache. And there’s room too, for the communal bearing of each other’s burden, holding hands. This song “Year of Twenty-six” isn’t mine - it’s yours, it’s ours. It’s out today on all streaming platforms. Love y’all.

The Year of Twenty-six. This new piece is a love song eulogy. It’s also a marker in time that is forged into our hearts, our memories - we the people of Minneapolis. Creating this was deeply humbling. The piano keys were a blur from weeping so hard. This is for Renée’s, Alex’s, and all the families…you can buy or stream it now on bandcamp. All proceeds will go to local organizations helping families affected by the occupation. Link is in my bio.

Joining me is Jacqueline Ultan on cello. Mixed & recorded by Zaneta Ogar. Sound engineer Jay Pearlman. Pic by @jjoehorton and @elenastantonn taken in Minneapolis, Minnesota by @chastity_brown

I’m trying to imagine how epically beautiful it will be to spend a few days near the ocean while looking across an autumnal display of mirth. by @chastity_brown
