We all know pink is my favorite color. Bubbly, bright, passionate, energetic. All the ways I usually feel. Lately, I’ve been grieving. Family members, relationships, thought processes, timelines (IYKYK) , ways I’ve lived to survive. In grief, earth tones are my favorite colors. Browns, Greens, Golds. I also love Black to express mourning in beauty and the beauty in mourning. I took space to breathe and grieve and this week and what I’ve found actually deeply freed my spirit . We tend to fight grief like we could ever win. We can’t. That acceptance has cleared so much painful confusion and subconscious battling that I didn’t realize I was doing. Embracing that grief has given my peace back. My heart is broken in so many ways and that’s okay. I have lost so much and that’s okay. I am so different and everything is so different and that’s okay. I’m learning to confront anxiety with the reminder that I’ve survived what I thought would kill me. I have lived through so many of my worlds burning and at this point my heart is a scrapbook of everything I’ve loved including those I’ve lost. Sometimes we can’t be present how we want to or show up how we need to. We can just be present exactly where we are and go from there. So last night was the opening night for @beconnecteddurham We Set Our Terms art exhibition at @zeitgeist_durham & I was so honored to be featured on that wall with my girls @deshiak.mua @janaitaylorr (MY HOUSE MODEL GIRLSSSSSSS) @bigtroublebaby @_tylnx @jailynneville @whoiskaliqalexander @keepitcozee (not pictured but in the pictures) (and S/O Ashley for coming!!!) 😭🥰 It felt surreal to see myself on a wall and being discuss as an art piece . To describe my vision and intention behind MY work for MYSELF and other plus size models! It meant so much to me. Younger me would think I’m so cool now and that also means the world to me. Growing up as a fat Black girl meant being reminded how undesirable and unattractive soooo many people felt I was. I’ve spent my adulthood challenging those inner critics inside my mind which is where @h.o.s.curvymodeling was born from. My first photoshoot was 7 years today. Read the caption. Read the way I felt 7 years ago. I’ve grown so much in myself and my confidence since that point and I can literally see it. Growing up fat ALL MY LIFE was hard. And I do mean HARD BITCH. The jokes, the looks, the ‘well meaning’ advice to change myself, the judgement when I didn’t hate myself, THE JUDGMENT WHEN I FUCKING DID!!! ‘You’re not fat you’re beautiful’ ‘If you lost some weight you’d be my type’ I’ve heard every fat joke you could think of (@therealmoworldwide @lizzobeeating @shamoo we all twins if yall didn’t know) AND THE WORLD STILL COULDNT DIM MY LIGHT??? I’m blessed and HIGHLY favored and beautiful. Thank you to every photographer I’ve worked with ( @alexusbphoto & @bils_memoir my faves) , thank you to my friends for showing up for me and reminding me I BEEN THAT ( & mushing any bitch who wanted to say otherwise ) , thank you to my sister @camryn.tamia for always defending me, wiping my tears and reminding me I can be whoever I want to be , you mean the world to me.
