Twelve years in the making. It is still the one piece that never leaves the wall. 🏔️

Starlia Aubrey began her Alpine Seasons Mandala around 2007. Along the way, Mystery XI called for her attention and became the Celtic Maze Mandala. Alpine waited patiently. Starlia returned to it and completed the journey in September 2019.

She stitched the design exactly as charted on 32 count natural linen. It is the only piece she has sent to Rensel Studios for framing, and the only one that never rotates out of its place in her home.

Some finishes mark a season. Others hold twelve years of a stitching life.

Some designs wait quietly for us until the right moment arrives. 🍄

Maryia Bandarenka fell in love with the Beaded Toadstool Tile near the beginning of her cross-stitch journey about nine years before she finally gathered the materials. She began it on her best friend’s birthday, 11 November 2025, and completed it only seven weeks later.

Stitched on 28-count Zweigart Cashel linen in Smokey Pearl, Maryia made the piece her own with extra Rhodes-stitch stems on the large green leaves and additional light teal beads above the green bugle beads.

The result is richly textured, jewel-like and full of woodland magic. Swipe slowly, the smallest details deserve their moment.

A little Italian street, a watchful dog and two tiny mice hiding where you may not expect them. 🇮🇹

Deb Draeger stitches places that remind her of her travels. While researching the 101 travel-inspired Châtelaine designs for her YouTube channel, The Traveling Stocking Stitcher, she realised she could not find a finished example of this design online. So she decided to add one to the Châtelaine stitching community herself.

Deb stitched Italian Street Cats, and a Dog, Too on 28-count antique white linen. She chose Delica Transparent Emerald and 24K green gold-plated iris beads, and substituted Dinky Dyes Evergreen for the charted Waterlilies Evergreen.

Look closely at the architecture inside the architecture.

In Taj Mahal Mandala, the domes and portals are not isolated motifs. They are held inside repeated floral and geometric frames, then drawn toward a cool, luminous centre. Cotton and silk, metallic braid, glass beads and speciality stitches give those small structures different kinds of light, so the design feels built as much through texture as through colour.

Lori Weaver stitched her Taj on 28 count Deep Sea Cashel linen by Crossed Wing. She changed the outer corner flowers to purple to echo the rich purple around the Taj buildings, then added pacific opal crystals where she wanted a little more light.

The chart is 265 by 265 stitches and is currently available in the Châtelaine shop. Link in bio.

A stunning mandala depicting all the things you would expect to see in a traditional Japanese garden to bring you calm, relaxation and zen. Water, trees, arches, Koi carp and beautiful mosses in different shades.

Jacinda’s parents bought her first Châtelaine (Paris Mandala) as a birthday present as she loved stitching it. They then bought this design and she stitched it for her husband’s 30th birthday present. She added two statues and two bonsai trees to the design as he requested, making the design personal and unique for him.

Evening in the Park is one of the most stitched Châtelaine designs. Often the first one to capture the imagination, the design features Victorian lampposts, wrought iron gates and bare trees which contrast and complement the ornate pond in the centre surrounded by white swans.

When Laura’s daughter told her about Châtelaine designs, she had never seen them before. Some research looking at images and reading blog posts set her on her journey with Evening in the Park being her first. Though an experienced cross stitcher, Laura had never worked speciality stitches or used some of the different threads that Châtelaine is noted for but she learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the project.

Some details sparkle. Others quietly reorganise the whole design.

Look closely at the blue and gold medallions inside Sleeping Beauty Castle Mandala. Their dense beadwork and metallic light create a jewel like rhythm, while the tiny flowers and pale pathways around them give that richness room to breathe.

The complete mandala changes as the eye travels around it. The rose hedge grows from one side of the castle to the next until the architecture is increasingly covered, so repetition becomes movement rather than perfect symmetry.

Dawn Powell stitched this finish on 28 count Sleeping Beauty Mist evenweave by Fabric Flair. She used the called for threads and beads, then added leftover beads to the most overgrown castle and extra crystals in the centre.

The design is 332 by 326 stitches and is currently available in the Châtelaine shop. Link in bio.

A large and intricate design, this piece may be a challenge to stitch but Sue believes it has to be the prettiest Châtelaine as it has so many beads set against very pretty pastel stitching. You have the option to stitch the beautiful hummingbirds ‘over one’, as Sue did giving depth of colour and detail, or there are also instructions to stitch them ‘over two’ if you don’t want to strain your eyes too much! Either way, there is no denying that this is a stunning piece of work and a fantastic design.

If you are just entering the world of Châtelaine and find the larger designs a bit daunting, then take a look at the wide range of mini, micro and midi designs. This set of mini mandalas are only 81 x 81 stitches but they are just as detailed and stunning when completed as their bigger sisters.

Jennifer discovered Châtelaine designs on YouTube and knew she wanted to stitch them but was new to cross stitch. So, she chose these to start her Châtelaine journey and fell in love with the sparkle of the beads, crystals and metallic threads. She stitched each of the designs separately so she can frame them individually.
