We ❀️ parksβ€” especially accessible, inclusive ones! Modeling language at the park is awesome, because it’s already a natural part of many family’s weekend routine. We know kids are most ready to attend to/eventually imitate language models when they’re regulated and engaged, and parks offer tons of opportunities for movement (regulation) and joy (engagement). πŸŽ‰ You can model gestures like pointing/clapping, exclamatory words like β€œweeeeee”, power words like β€œyes”, gestalts like β€œready, set go!”, specific sounds like β€œswing” for S blends, describing words like β€œtall”/ β€œon”, verb tensing like β€œwent”/β€œclimbing”, pronouns like β€œhe”/β€œshe”, and more. Chat with your SLP this week about potential targets to model at the park based on your child’s specific goals.
