Noble Eucalyptus Leaf Beetle 🪲

Paropsisterna nobilitata, commonly known as the Noble Eucalyptus Leaf Beetle, is a strikingly colorful Australian beetle (family Chrysomelidae) with metallic red, gold, or green tones, often resembling liquid metal or glass. Primarily found in Australia and Tasmania, these beetles feed on Eucalyptus leaves.

Key Characteristics & Habitat:

Appearance: They have a domed, highly reflective exoskeleton that changes color depending on the light.

Diet: They are herbivores feeding on Eucalyptus foliage.

Range: While common in Australia, species of Paropsisterna have been introduced to Southern California, where they are considered pests.

Behavior: They are known as eucalyptus tortoise beetles and can cause significant damage in high numbers.
