Tuesday morning is Cooper time at our house! One of his new favorite things to do is to grind our coffee. First he smells it to make sure the beans are fresh. Then he presses the button about twenty times to make sure they're just right. He puts his ear to the grinder to listen carefully. Finally, the job is complete. Another shot reconfigured a bit from our 2008 trip to Croatia using Topaz AI3. I was dealing with very little light here, and the software reduced the considerable noise and sharpened the face of the cook. In 2008, Margaret and I took our first trip to Croatia. Our second stop was Rovinj, a beautiful city north of Dubrovnik with a strong Italian influence. Trieste, in Italy, is a couple of hours north, and Venice is served by frequent ferry service. One of our stops on our Italy Photo Workshop tour of Puglia last year was Alberobello, home of the most concentrated collection of Trulli houses. I took this photograph on a tripod with a very slow shutter speed, allowing the people to either disappear altogether or just blur, while the buildings remain sharp. On our third night in Sicily on our Italy Photo Workshop, we went as a group on a photo walk around the beautiful old city of Ortigia. It's a small island connected to its larger city of Syracuse, and the home of the cities' most important landmarks like The Temple of Apollo, The Fountains of Arethusa, and the magnificent Cathedral of Syracuse, originally a Greek temple. Ortigia is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. At one end of the island, we happened upon a beautiful sunset, with hundreds of locals and tourists enjoying the scene. taken in Ortigia by @chbradfo

Last April, we met our friends, Tom and Liz, for four days in Portugal. We took a full day tour of Aviero and Coimbra, both well worth it. This photo shows a group of university students on Coimbra's main drag, dressed in the black capes and ties which are the students' traditional dress. They often go down to the main part of town to sing for tips or find other creative ways to boost their incomes. The university sits high above the town and is a beautiful very old series of buildings. I always try to dress the part when visiting a castle, and it was fortuitous to have my frenemy, Mauro Riva, ready with his camera as we toured this castle somewhere in Sicily. I knew in advance there would be elaborate costumes on display so I packed one of my finest outfits for the occasion. Here is our crew for our flight from Catania to Barcelona a few weeks ago. It was great to see my twin brothers and our steward, Mauro, along with Margaret's twin sister, Margo, who would be taking us to Spain. The flight was really bumpy and the service was abominable.
