I love my queerness, which is why I keep choosing it everyday. There is a world in which I could keep that shit a little more tucked away for safety and comfort and all the things, but I love it too much for that. I love my queerness that will rot your teeth out, and I love my queerness that will break your nose. I don't know how to be a person where my queer identities don't feel queer, which is why I struggle so much in the Nordic countries.I don't feel queer, and I don't know how to not feel queer and still like myself.
I have been primed for the revolution and when I am just fine and normal enough, I don't know how to feel at home in myself. Living in crazy, scary fascism is not my favorite, but the hot people are most certainly getting hotter. By that, I mean every single person who has publicly said death before detransition deserves to be kissed on the mouth, and I am more than willing to take on this service for the good of the nation.
Tell your queer friends you love them and the wonderful bits of magic they are bringing to your world. It's hard being queer right now but it might be even harder for some of us to not be queer.
If you are a queer reading this right now, you are so cool, so sexy, and I'm so proud of you honey. by @che.flory

It's official. Che is an insufferable early modern drama scholar. What do you mean I spent nearly every conscious moment in England reading early modern drama quartos, finding all the early modern playhouses (most of which are random office buildings now), or seeing shows? I've never been cool, but we are really reaching new lows here. by @che.flory

I might possibly be the world's worst archivist of my own life, so here's a meager attempt at a recap of this wild fucking year.
January 1: Watched a man almost get shanked from about two feet away in Colombia
January: More Colombia, so many rehearsals, also Des Moines, Iowa for a conference, never going to get tired of being the best dramaturg people have ever worked with
February 1-2: Opened a gargantuan play with some of my favorite people and holy shit it was beautiful
February: Even more rehearsals, learning everything there is to know about turkeys as a book editor, cheeky trip to the Twin Cities
March: A week in The Netherlands, with 30 hours in London right in the middle of that, some great theatre, so much art, all the castles, learning everything there is to know about a tiny railroad in North Dakota as a book editor, drove to Regina and Saskatoon, even more Proof rehearsals
April: Too many trips to Minneapolis, more rehearsals, sunk my savings into a bus, hosted a book launch, opened Proof!, coping with the fact that I am moments from graduating, started prepping to open a bookstore
May: More trips to Minneapolis, last finals week (and it was the hardest one of undergrad), prepping to move across the country
May 11: Graduated with a BFA and two English minors and a Certificate in Publishing and then hopped in my car and started driving to Colorado for the summer job
More May: Living the artist life where I basically only have to go to rehearsal, living in the most beautiful place I've ever called home, exploring Colorado
June: open As You Like It as Oliver, launched the bookstore, trip planning, broke off a long term relationship, more Colorado adventures, a little trip to Santa Fe
July: worked as a theatre camp counselor, packing all the time, drove from Colorado to Virginia, flew out to Europe, London layover involving a dear friend and Slave Play, Prague, Bratislava, Vienna, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Split, art, theatre, messy Euro summer
August: Mostar, Sarajevo, Belgrade, Budapest, Presov (ancestral homeland and finished a play I worked on for two years), Krakow, Berlin, Prague, circus, art, lots of dreaming, missed orientation to see a play in UK by @che.flory

Grad school starts on Monday, which still does not feel real probably because I am sitting on the Tube writing this and not remotely close to Virginia. Cheers to more change because I can't seem to get enough of that lately. by @che.flory

Berlin, I went, I liked it, and you can't make me like that I liked it.
Also, I do intend to be a @berlincircusfestival lover until I die, which is terribly inconvenient for my wishes to hate Berlin but is a very good excuse to go back that doesn't make it seem like I like it there. by @che.flory

Presov, wasn't that a weird time?
No one prepares you for going to your great grandparents' hometown accidentally during an International Catalan Festival that now has intrinsically linked Catalan music with your ancestral lands, which to be clear is absolutely nowhere close to Catalonia.
Other things no one prepared me for in eastern Slovakia: there being absolutely no English spoken, stumbling upon a medieval festival in a castle including incredible jousting, running 4 km from that festival to catch a bus so I didn't have to stay in that town for another 12 hours, getting a guided tour through an art gallery by an old man through Google Translate, meeting the Estonian handball team - again not close to where we are, it looking exactly like my part of Appalachia, the main street in town having my last name - this is not the side from here, finishing the play I spent the last two years of my life on, missing multiple means of public transit that each caused a couple hour delay, witnessing one of the most passion queer kisses I've ever seen at 2 pm in the main square just because, whatever the fuck that massive pastry I kept buying at the Lidl in the basement of the mall was. taken in Prešov, Slovenská Republika by @che.flory

Bosnia and Herzegovina, you lifted a piece out of my heart, but you can keep it and I'll come and visit. Instead of trying to articulate what these cities meant to me, I am going to try and say what they would much rather have me say.
There is a genocide going on right now in Palestine. There has been one going on for decades, but we have reached the extinction stage where things get decidedly worse.
There is a very real world where this could not be happening: boycotting, divesting, cutting away any money you could be that is funding Israel or the United States, getting money into the hands of people in Gaza.
There will be a world where Palestine gets to flourish. In 30 years, I hope there is an uninformed 22 year old who stumbles into a free Palestine and fall in love and learns about our current moment and can't imagine how it is so unblemished and wonderful as it is for them.
Israel will not fully succeed. There are too many people who have fought through the bureaucracy and relocated. That doesn't mean we get to step back and see how far this can go, but there is not going to be a point where those of us who aren't directly affected get the chance to lose hope. Palestine will survive and, in most of our lifetimes, will probably get to thrive.
Right now, I will keep fighting for each person to escape as much harm as possible however I can, and when there is a world that lets me go to a Palestine that isn't a death sentence from Israel, I will be in one of those first group of artists that come and help rebuild peace in the way we know how, art.
Hope is so hard to maintain, but having it is the least we can do.
Thank you for all the reminders, Sarajevo. I miss seeing a Palestinian flag every ten steps and being in a place that knows the power of remembering. taken in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina by @che.flory

One of the most unadulterated fun things I've ever shared on here: I used to watch Rick Steves videos in high school. I owned the whole box set and would just plan a casual trip to wherever when I needed a break. One day I stumbled on the Slovenia episode, for those familiar with Rick Steves there are normally a couple episodes on each country split by region because there is more to cover than a 20 something minute episode will be able to. There is only one Slovenia episode though, and it became my favorite for no real sensible reason.
I wasn't even planning to go to Slovenia this trip because it felt too special, but I had an extra three days early on in my trip and changed all my plans to go. Suffice it to say, 13 year old Che was a genius, and I am already emotionally planning the Slovenia/Slovakia trip to end all others.
To the nerdiest of you all, every single outdoor picture in this post is a place featured in the episode. taken in Ljubljana, Slovenia by @che.flory
