45 is the new 29. I don’t make the rules.

Feeling more myself this birthday than I have in a long time. Here’s to thriving not just surviving our forties! 🥂

2024 has felt heavy and like God was stripping me like never before. But it’s funny how my camera roll can tell a very different story or at least remind me that although there is hardship, there are also so many blessings.

So I’m not sure yet why this year has been so hard but believing God has plans for the next sixth months and beyond, that will exceed my expectations. In the meantime I’ll focus on what I have and it’s still A LOT! 😊 by @checherush

I was 8 years old when my dad married Jan and all my life she was someone who modeled kindness and living a life full of joy.She loved to laugh. She had the most distinct and infectious laugh of anyone I’ve ever met. It was so perfectly hers.

As I’ve thought about her life, she had a lot of battles - lived with MS for 30 years, she beat breast and thyroid cancer, she had diabetes, and then dementia and parkinson’s towards the end…but I don’t have a single memory of her complaining. Not one, I’m sure many people didn’t even know she was sick because that is who she was…she never put the attention on herself. She wanted to know how you were, if you were okay, the closest thing to a complaint was maybe how she quietly slipped away for a nap. And she did love to nap.

She taught me how to grow up in a lot of ways, but she never yelled, I don’t remember her ever yelling at me.

Some of the things that stand out to me most are the memories of kindness and laughter. How she giggled when she first saw you and greeted you with a hug. I remember her teaching me how to cross stitch. The way she celebrated me. Making my dress for my first High School dance.

And then when I moved to NC she was my favorite person to call. When she heard my voice, she would immediately be so excited to hear how it was going. And that excitement for my phone call never changed, she was always so happy to hear from me and she acted like it was the most important thing she could do that day was talking to me.

And as people have shared their own memories I’m learning that is how she made everyone feel, like you were the most important person to her, that sharing a laugh, a story, a moment with you was the best use of her time. And I know that even today, she is looking down at us wanting that same thing, she would want us to laugh, to experience joy, and leave here appreciating the people in our lives a little more than we did before we came… by @checherush
