Turns out, all it took was an Arabic games night.

A room full of beautiful people, a table full of games, the best DJs and Arabic beats in the background, Levantine cocktails, Labneh, Lusa Harissa, connection.

In a world that can feel increasingly disconnected, there’s something powerful about simply getting people in a room together. Every ticket was a donation to @apnorg - a charity doing incredible work in Palestine.  A special thanks to @renae.mcr for hosting us and @checkmate.mcr for making this evening possible.  And a shout out to the DJs who showed up with open hearts and soundtracked the evening with Arabic beats. @dj.gardener_ and @eskidurk  @sabs.tg  @khadija333.k   And to @risingtarot__ host for adding a slice of magic to the evening and to @zainab.s.salih our Egyptian tawla champion who taught everyone how to play this beautiful game! And to @getlusa for serving incredible snacks. 
If you’ve been looking for a sign to come to an Arabic games night, this is it. ❤️

SOLD OUT! For one evening, we’re bringing the Arab living room to Manchester.

The kind where somebody’s baba is fiercely competitive at chess, and spends 25 minutes plotting his next move before losing and accusing you of cheating.

We’ll gather around the table for an evening of tawla and chess. We’ll farfesh and chit-chat the night away, and somehow you’ll leave with three new friends and an invitation to somebody’s cousin’s wedding.

Proceeds from our Arabic Games Night with @checkmate.mcr at @renae.mcr will be donated to the Revive Gaza’s Farmland initiative, supporting farmers working to restore local food production in the face of devastation. With more than 95% of Gaza’s farmland destroyed and food increasingly used as a weapon of war (illegal btw) every harvest is an act of resilience. On the night, you’ll be able to head upstairs to explore the exhibition, which shares the story of APN and the vital work they’re doing to support communities in Gaza.

From 7pm onwards, dead casual vibes ♟️

People come with friends, people come solo… some mix, some keep to themselves..it’s all welcome here. It usually gets pretty busy, so if you’re planning to come later on, we’d definitely recommend bringing a board if you have one. We’ve got around 15 boards available, but they go quickly!

Also, we’d love to see more women getting involved!! Chess can feel like a male-dominated space, but this is a friendly, inclusive environment.. so if you’ve been thinking about coming down, take this as your sign. Bring a friend or come on your own, you’ll be more than welcome 🤍
