It was during the school holidays, I was in JSS3 (if I remember correctly). I had just gotten a new phone, Nokia C1 and was listening to a song on it, Wizkid’s Love My Baby (I can never forget the song, lol). My mum was sharing her heaven experience with some people, and I walked in with my earpiece plugged in, completely immersed in the music.
I still remember her words in Igbo: “Ha na-ekwu na Chineke na-abịa ọzọ, e no ebe ahu, na-ege egwu.” (They are saying Jesus is coming soon, and you’re there listening to music.)

At the time, it felt like a random comment. But years later, I realized she was teaching me something far deeper than she probably intended. It wasn’t just about the song. It was about attention. It was about what had access to my ears while something more important was being said.

One thing I’ve learned since then is that not everything deserves access to your ear. In a generation where everyone has a platform, everyone has an opinion, and everyone is saying something, discernment has become more necessary than ever. The ear is a gate, and whatever repeatedly enters it eventually finds its way into the heart.

Most people are careful about what they eat, yet careless about what they consume mentally. We listen to voices, podcasts, trends, influencers, and conversations without ever asking whether they are leading us closer to truth or further from it. Not every loud voice is a wise voice, and not every popular idea is a sound one.
I’ve come to realize that guarding the ear gate is an act of stewardship. What I listen to shapes what I think, what I think influences what I believe, and what I believe ultimately directs how I live.

In a world full of noise, wisdom is not found in hearing everything, it is found in knowing what deserves your attention. by @chee.somm

Before I got into university proper, while waiting for JAMB, I served in church as the secretary. Looking back, I dare say I did almost everything, ushering, choir, administration. That year became one of the most formative seasons of my life. I learned lessons there that no classroom could have taught me.
One thing was certain: I served diligently and wholeheartedly. But somewhere along the way, I couldn’t draw the line anymore. I realized I had slipped into performance. I felt like I served God more than everyone else. I wanted people to see how much I was doing. That was when I learned one of the greatest lessons of my life: MOTIVE, the hidden reason behind every visible action.

It is easy to seek recognition, approval, or praise while disguising it as service. But a pure motive asks a different question: If no one saw this, would I still do it? True obedience is not measured by applause but by faithfulness. It is serving when no one notices, giving when no one can repay, and loving without expecting anything in return.

Checking my motive has guided my journey through life. It has kept me in check when I desperately wanted to buy something or pursue something for the wrong reasons. A simple question, Why do I want this?, often recalibrates my heart. To me, motive is where true worship begins.
“All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord.” (Proverbs 16:2, NIV). by @chee.somm

It was towards the last lap of Uni that Henrietta died (may her beautiful soul keep resting)her death changed a lot of things within me that I’d love to share now.
Since I gave my life to Christ I’ve never “feared” death, I only do if the person was never right with their maker. Death has a way of reminding us what truly matters. It silences the noise, strips away the temporary, and confronts us with the reality that our time here is not endless. The things we spent years chasing suddenly seem small when viewed through the lens of eternity.

Perhaps the greatest lesson death taught me and still does is how to live. To love deeply. To forgive quickly. To hold loosely to the things of this world and firmly to the things of God. Because in the end, we will not be remembered for what we accumulated, but for how we loved, how we served, and whether we lived for what would last beyond the grave. So live right! Live true, and don’t hold things so tightly ❤️

See you again tomorrow 😌 by @chee.somm

Today I did something nna’m Capable will be proud of! I attended a Catholic Church again,
The last time I did that was the end of Jss3, I was in a juniorate, and had thoughts of being a rev. Sister. Lol. (Story for another day)

The beauty of heaven is that the life you lived on here is what counts, not the works, not the “church”, but the life you lived for God here on earth. So in moments when the hymns played, I sat through those hymns, reminiscing on the day we meet Jesus, how glorious it would be, another indication to live right!
.
I had a good day today, while walking home I thought to do something this week, to show up every day this week, through writing, to tell creative stories through writing, this would be on anything. No, I won’t chicken out, so you’re welcomed to look out for my posts ❤️ by @chee.somm
