When Life Comes Full Circle 🔁🏀

It’s always a special moment when the journey brings you back home.

Through our work with TDSB partner schools, CHEERS brought our Hoops & Hopes programming to Lawrence Heights Middle School, where Coach K had a full-circle moment reconnecting with one of his former teachers, someone who once guided him as a student.

Years later, he returned as a mentor and leader, giving back to the same community that helped shape him. 🏀

At CHEERS, Wellness Wednesdays are about giving youth real-life knowledge, practical skills, and a safe space to learn, ask questions, and connect.

From navigating systems and understanding finances to finding supports and taking care of their well-being, each session is designed to help youth feel more informed, confident, and prepared for everyday life. 🙌🏾

And most importantly, we’re listening to what they want to learn about. 💬

A summer of growth, on and off the field. ⚽💙

CHEERS joined Push Elite’s Train the Trainer final event, where our youth had the opportunity to step onto the field and showcase everything they’ve been working on throughout the summer. ⚽🙌🏾

Through our Train the Trainer model, youth worked hard to strengthen their soccer skills while also growing mentally through life-skills workshops focused on confidence, discipline, leadership, and personal development. 💪🏾🧠

Last summer, with the support of our funders and trustees, youth in our Hoops & Hopes Summer Camp got geared up with Adidas basketball shoes to help them keep pushing forward in their basketball journey.

At CHEERS, we believe in giving our youth more than opportunities. We give them the tools and mentorship they need to grow, dream, and excel in life. Every step they take forward is built on the support of those who believe in their potential.

Beyond the Court 🏀

At our Hoops & Hopes program at Lawrence Heights Middle School, we took time off the court for an important workshop focused on understanding the youth.

Led by Coach K, this session was about getting to know each student, their goals, dreams, and what truly makes them who they are. By having these conversations early in the program, we’re able to better understand the youth we work with and support them in meaningful ways, both on and off the court.

At CHEERS, Hoops & Hopes is about more than basketball. It’s about mentorship, connection, and helping young people move closer to their goals.

Growth, Mentorship, and Memories 🖤
Hear It From Our Youth ✨

This past summer, CHEERS ran our Hoops & Hopes Summer Camp across Toronto, designed for Black youth ages 9–16. Over six weeks, we combined basketball training with mentorship, workshops, and community activities giving youth the chance to grow not just as athletes, but as leaders.

At its heart, Hoops & Hopes is a mentorship program. It’s about creating safe spaces, building community, and giving youth the tools, guidance, and confidence to thrive, on the court and in life.

At CHEERS, we’re all about mentorship

making sure youth are supported and on the right track for their future. It’s always inspiring to see people come out and connect with what we do 🙌🏾

On a recent workshop trip to Rouge Hill Park, our youth were greeted by officers from the @torontopolice , who took the time to encourage them and applaud their commitment to showing up early, focusing on fitness, and prioritizing mental well-being.

Youth Mental Wellness in Motion 🏃🏾🌱

Nature has a way of healing that four walls can’t match. During our run at Rouge Hill Park, @coachnasontho led our youth on a 5KM journey through trails, slopes, and open air, reminding us that mental wellness grows stronger when we step outside, breathe deeply, and push together as a community 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

A big shoutout to @torontopfr for making spaces like these accessible, giving our youth a safe and inspiring environment to reconnect with both nature and themselves.
