The Billy Goat Tavern isn't much of a legend, but it is a somewhat of a hidden landmark. There is nothing overtly special about it. But just like so many other things in The Windy City, there's just something to it. Is it going to be your favorite burger, probably not. Is it a first date spot, almost assuredly not. Is it a piece of Chicago, and a slice of Americana, oh yeah. If you are someone who likes to experience something that exists unapologetically for being what it is and nothing else, there it waits for you, open 7 days a week.

They ask why I keep going back. Because Hernan and team @lahamburguesaaz do it right. They have specials every week. This week at 5pm go get the LH Burger because they only serve 20 a day. 45 day aged beef smoked to perfection. They use New School Cheese. This is a thicc boy but if that’s not your thing they have that Viva Mexico Burger that is my favorite maybe ever.

10 months after moving to Phoenix we made the trek out to Wickenburg to scarf down @capital.patty to eat @capital.farms cheeseburgers. It was worth it folks. Hunter is running a heck of a business. We got The Oklahoma Smash and the La Hamburguesa. Hunter was kind enough to chat a bit and send out a sample of The Fancy Smashburger and the Pastrami Burger (not pictured). It was not slow at all even on a 111 degree day. I urge any burger lovers to go there and get the burgers and buy some steaks. Awesome spot. If you have a significant other stay out there and find a little motel. Oh, and they use excellent @noblebread

@sandwich.apprentice is at Uptown Farmers Market every Saturday. He creates excellent sandwiches and sometimes when he wants to, designs excellent burgers. Alex and his team uses @capital.farms beef and what really pops for me is the sweet onion & pickles. This is your big boy. And for the sake of burger R&D I ate this big boy at 8:30am. Go see them if not for the burger, for the breakfast sandwich or the other specials he puts together.

@lahamburguesaaz last week for the Birria Burger. Smash patty, shaved onion, cilantro mayo, Oaxaca cheese, fresh cilantro, and birria meat. On the side consume and my favorite part - Chile de arbol which I took some home for eggs. These guys are consistently making the best and most original burgers I’ve ever had. Incredible flavors here. 10/10.

Had a little time in Denver and went to @rightcream and they went really hard on the smash concept. I mean look at that maillard. It’s in South Denver right by where I used to live. If you’re in Denver go to there and eat one.

For National Burger Day I had the best burger in Arizona and one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. It’s my third time going to Hernan and his crew @lahamburguesaaz and it’s been decided. @lahamburguesaaz is one of the greatest burger institutions in the country. Go get this burger. If you can handle a little spice you need the Viva Mexico Burger. They regularly pop up 5 or maybe 6 days a week. 10/10.

The Cheezer add a patty from @stoopkidphx is a dense one. It’s so good. Getting up the courage to order the Caesar burger. In Phoenix, this is an excellent consistent burger go get it.

Apologies for the hiatus but a lot has been going on only to hop back in and eat @smokeslabbbq when they popped up @goldwaterbrewingco and Sean is a master. I got The Jam Burger. It’s a brisket, Chuck, and fat blend with maple bacon bourbon jam and cheddar on a squishy non fancy bun. The pickles are homemade and I went home with a pound of sage breakfast sausage. Go see Sean. He’s doing another pop up on May 20th. Can’t recommend this enough. It reminds me of Austin Texas bbq. The pulled pork was fantastic too. Sean is there until 8pm tonight. Go get a Kolsch and some food.

The Devil Burger from @pedalhausbrewery it came with pickled jalapeno, spicy mayo, and pepperjack cheese. For a thick boy it was quite good. It’s one of those burgers you can’t put down because it will get all over the place and in your face. So it’s best to just inhale it. If you haven’t been able to tell, I really like jalapeno on my burger. Check it out in downtown Mesa.
