Today I had lunch with my sweet friend Julie, who gifted me the most beautiful garden treasures. 🌿🍅

Separating the shiso leaves and shiso no mi while snacking on her tomatoes brought me right back to childhood memories in my Japanese grandparents’ garden. 🥹❤️

It’s amazing how simple conversations can create such beautiful connections. My heart is smiling so big today. Thank you, @juliexblonde 🙏💗 by @chefasuka

🍂 As we welcome Autumn, I want to take a moment to give thanks to the beautiful summer produce that nourished and powered my family, my clients, and myself throughout the season.

There’s something so special about cooking with ingredients at their peak. Colorful, vibrant, full of flavor, and grown with so much care.

Kodawari (こだわり) is something I carry with me in everything I do. It’s the Japanese appreciation for intention, care, and attention to detail. And when it comes to food, I love how that mindset naturally leads us to eat with the seasons, appreciating ingredients for what they are and when they are at their best. 🌱

A heartfelt thank you to all of the amazing farmers who continuously pour their time, dedication, and hard work into growing the seasonal crops that make their way onto our tables. Your work truly makes a difference. ❤️

And a huge S/O to Carrboro Farmers Market and Chapel Hill Farmers Market for providing such wonderful places for our community to find and enjoy all of that beautiful local produce and so much more!

Thank you, Summer, for all the deliciousness! 🍉🌽🍑🥒🍅

I’m ready for you, Autumn! 🍁🍂 by @chefasuka

Ended the meal prep week strong. Cooked for 25 people this week. ❤️

Because my days and nights always seem to start and end with doing for others, I try my best to show myself appreciation whenever I can, in ways that feel meaningful to me.

Tonight, I made myself a simple but beautiful Japanese comfort meal: eggplant, shishito peppers & okra age, chasoba, and the last of the shiso leaves from my Mom’s garden. 🌿

Grated daikon with ponzu was the perfect touch.
From the sauces to the broth, I made everything myself, pouring so much love into a meal that was just for me.

After spending the week feeding everyone else, it felt good to slow down and make something thoughtful just for myself. Sometimes, these little moments of cooking for myself are how I recharge and show myself a little appreciation.

Thank you, beautiful summer vegetables, and to the amazing farmers who grew them. Because of you, the tastes of summer have been absolutely wonderful. ☀️Huge S/O to @carrborofarmersmarket
for always providing beautiful seasonal produce !!
And now… I’m ready for the tastes of fall. 🍂

A little nourishment, a little appreciation, and a beautiful Japanese comfort meal to give me the oomph I need to endure the rest of this week. 🍵💚 by @chefasuka

Another successful College Survival Cooking 101 class in the books!

Today was 3.5 hours of hands-on, meal-prep-style cooking and 11 dishes from start to finish.

This class is all about teaching practical kitchen skills that college students can actually use, how to prep efficiently, cook multiple dishes, manage their time in the kitchen, and put together meals they can enjoy throughout the week.

And the best part? At the end of the class, they have a fridge full of food they cooked themselves to enjoy in the week ahead!

I love watching students gain confidence as the class goes on. By the end, they’ve not only learned recipes, but also have a better understanding of how to navigate the kitchen on their own.

Such a fun and productive class today. I’m so proud of the work that was done and grateful to be able to share these skills with the next generation.

The first College Survival Cooking 101 class was a great success! 🎉

Congratulations to Sam, Jake, and Aiden on completing the very first College Survival Cooking 101 class!

Together, we prepared 11 meal-prep-friendly dishes in just 4½ hours from start to finish, proving that with a little guidance, anyone can create delicious, balanced meals from scratch.

Cooking is a life skill that feeds more than just your stomach—it builds confidence, independence, and community. ❤️

As you begin your college journey, I hope the skills and recipes you learned make everyday life a little easier and become the foundation of a lifelong relationship with nutritious, home-cooked meals. I also hope you'll carry the confidence to step into the kitchen and create something that makes you feel at home, no matter where life takes you.

Thank you for trusting me to be a small part of this exciting new chapter. Wishing you all the best in college and beyond! 🎓🍽️ by @chefasuka
