Postindustrial Intimacies: Companions on Disturbed Lands

Brent River Beavers, Aiden Dutton (ADS3, 25/26)

London’s Borough of Ealing sits within the low-lying Brent River catchment, where flooding has been recorded for centuries as a natural outcome of local ecology and geology. Eurasian Beavers were the area’s original ecosystem engineers, shaping wetlands and slowing flows through dam-building and canal networks. Since their extinction in London over 400 years ago, post-industrial infrastructure has failed to prevent major flood events. This project investigates how beaver-led rewilding—demonstrated at Paradise Fields since 2022—can inform a shift toward living with water through dynamic, soft floodplain systems. It asks how beaver “architectures” could transform Brent River Park into a more effective functional floodplain while enhancing urban biodiversity.

Chef's Garden (2023)

My little "informal" garden in the @massartboston courtyard which managed to make it a full growing season despite all odds.

Thanks to @taxonomypress for the seeds, Dante for help with soil and bricks, Owen for keeping a watchful eye, Oma for soil and support, Mia for helping to seed, Max Azanow for the hose, SIM students, and hitherto unknown waterers. taken in Massachusetts College of Art and Design by @chefboay
