We noticed new faces and want to say, Welcome to Sistrunk Seeds 💚

Our roots began in Sistrunk in Broward, where growing food turned into something much bigger: growing community, creating access, sharing knowledge, supporting wellness, and planting seeds for the next generation.

Today, Sistrunk Seeds is more than a farm 🌱

We are an urban farm, food aggregation hub, and community education center. We grow produce, aggregate fresh food from a regional network of farm partners, distribute to the community, and run workforce development and educational programming that builds lasting food literacy across Miami-Dade County.

Through our farm, The People’s Pantry, community partnerships, and programs, we’re working to create greater access to:

🥬 Fresh food & food distributions

🍳 Nutrition & cooking education

🧘🏾‍♀️ Fitness & wellness experiences

🌱 Gardening & sustainability workshops

👩🏾‍🌾 Youth internships & workforce development

👕 Clothing & essential resources

🤝 Mutual aid and community support

💚 Spaces for connection, nourishment & healing

And none of this work happens alone.

Alongside organizations like Buddy System MIA, Eat Well Exchange, Camillus Health Concern, Lion Farms, Urban Oasis Project, Touching Miami With Love, and a growing network of volunteers, donors, neighbors, students, and supporters, we’re planting seeds designed to impact our communities for generations.

A glance back at Sustento Diario (Daily Sustenance) at @pamm Good food, good music, meaningful conversations, and even better community 💚

We loved joining @urban_oasis_project, @buddysystemmia and friends for an evening centered around food, culture, memory & connection.

Led by Dominican artist David Pérez Karmadavis @karmadavis_ the evening brought the community together through storytelling, plantain-centered dishes, shared recipes, a communal meal, and music reminding us that what we grow and what we eat can carry generations of history in collaboration with @verdemiami and Chef Valeri Fuentes @lacocineitor

We’re excited to bring back our Garden to Table class with @chefchryssalmon of @dunnsovertownfarm after so much interest from our first cohort!

Families will get hands-on experience learning gardening basics, harvesting fresh produce, and cooking healthy meals using culturally familiar ingredients.

This is more than a cooking class. It’s about food access, life skills, nutrition education, and reconnecting with where our food comes from in a fun and welcoming environment.

For “Let’s Eat! YVAC’s 2nd Network Meet-up Event” 🥗, we are happy to share that @chefchryssalmon will be providing a cooking demonstration for us❗️

Sistrunk Seeds DBA Dunn’s Overtown Farms is a Black and woman-led nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing health equity through nutrition education, food access, and urban agriculture. Based in Overtown, Miami, they operate in Dunn’s Overtown Farms @dunnsovertownfarm , the city’s only USDA-certified urban farm offering culturally responsive wellness programming rooted in food-as-medicine.

They also provide free community meals, garden-based nutrition classes, and healthcare-aligned initiatives that support uninsured and underinsured families. Their work centers those most impacted by food insecurity and chronic illness, particularly BIPOC, immigrant, and low-income populations.

🗒️During the event, we will:
🗣️Meet up to have a group discussion about food equity and strategies.

👩🏾‍🍳Watch & learn from a cooking Demonstration by Chef Chrys (Menu: Omelette & Veggie Wraps)

🥘Learn about Culinary Drip with Chef Dorrette as they share their mission and work to share culinary skills.

🛒Receive $25 worth of Fresh Access Bucks tokens, to pick up some groceries from Urban Oasis Project with a YVAC provided shopping bag.

📄Attendees will also leave with a one-pager of food resources/pantries!
