Top of the breakfast section of the CheffingforOne (or two or three or four or your whole family) cookbook is this: pecan banana bread French toast. Born of necessity at a brunch, it’s now a favorite amongst family and friends. Three layer chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and chocolate icing- Grandma and Gabe’s bday weekend calls for some extra effort. I’m pretty proud of this gorgeous and delectable monstrosity that put my entire family into a sugar coma from the moment we looked at it (separate from all the times we sampled the individual components). Hamentashen with new flavors but using the same pack of sprinkles as last year… going to need to buy a new one for next year. Self isolation tacos ala @plantbasedrd - yep, Covid finally found its way to my respiratory system a second time. Now that I’m over the worst two days, what better way to enjoy solitary confinement than by doing a FaceTime cooking party with @shani.weiner ? We were both super limited re ingredients - her by NYC market deficiencies and myself by no grocery store access at all. Project cinnamon bun photos in reverse order of events - step 1: wake up craving miso cinnamon buns. Step 2: realize everyone else is sleeping and you have an opportunity to surprise them. Step 3: get halfway through the recipe and realize you don’t have butter. Step 4: go to grocery store (listed open online). Step 5: realize they lied. Step 6: go home in defeat. Step 7: renewed hope in a chunk of margarine in the back of the fridge. Step 8: realize you used baking soda instead of baking powder. Step 9: make a miracle of Hanukkah happen.
