The opening of @shanghaimelondon has truly been a special labour of love. To then be honoured by the visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai @hhshkmohd at our new London venue made it even more meaningful. We are honoured to celebrate @kigo.dubai recognition with One MICHELIN Star in 2026 — one of only two restaurants newly awarded this distinction in Dubai this year.

What makes this achievement even more meaningful is that KIGO has been open for just one remarkable year. In that time,the Kigo team has remained committed to its’ vision: bringing together the precision of Japanese culinary tradition, a relentless pursuit of excellence, and an experience that is both memorable and deeply personal.

We are equally proud to celebrate Chef Akinori Tanigawa, recipient of the MICHELIN Service Award 2026, recognising the exceptional hospitality, care, and attention to detail at the heart of the KIGO experience.

London-born, Michelin-trained across France and Spain, Chef Izu Ani moved to Dubai in 2010 — years before it became one of the world’s most competitive restaurant markets. His flagship, GAIA, is now one of hospitality’s most coveted tables, with six locations worldwide and a guest list that’s included Drake, David and Victoria Beckham, Naomi Campbell, Idris Elba and Charles Leclerc.

This spring marked his U.S. debut: GAIA Miami, in South of Fifth. Bethenny Frankel called it the best restaurant in Miami. Foodgod’s warning went viral — “Good luck getting in.”

What’s next: GAIA’s Private Dining Room, an intimate 36-seat space offering an alternative dining environment, as well as a setting for drinks after dinner.

Fifteen years building Dubai’s dining reputation. Now he’s building one here.
