There are quite a few new faces around here, so I figured it was time to reintroduce myself. 👋🏾Here’s a little get-to-know-me.I’ve got some exciting things in the works, and I can’t wait to share them with you. Stay tuned… this is just the beginning.#blackchefs #chefs #businessowner #aboutme #trendI was lucky enough to have a family that believed in me when I said I wanted to be a chef at such a young age. That dream never changed, and neither did their support. I hope everyone gets to experience that kind of encouragement while chasing what they love.Watching my Puerto Rican grandmother bring everyone together through her cooking made me realize that’s what I wanted to do too. Food has a way of creating connection, and I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.Also... I make a pretty bomb pernil too. 🌚🤎I hope I can give my kids the same foundation I was given the freedom to chase whatever dreams they have.So if you see me running from soccer to basketball to dance... just know I’m out here making sure they get to try everything (and probably I’m tired 🥹).I learned so much at The Cecil. I truly felt like all the sacrifices from culinary school to the long hours in the kitchen were finally paying off.Being recognized for my hard work meant everything, and I’ll always be grateful for that chapter. 🙌🏾Fieldtrip is my love letter to rice. We built a restaurant around the idea that Rice Is Culture because rice is the star of dinners across so many cultures. I truly believe rice deserves the same recognition as pasta but that’s a conversation for another day. At Fieldtrip, rice is the star. 🤌🏾🤌🏾Nothing tests you quite like writing a book. It challenged me in ways I never expected and taught me so much about myself.My first cookbook, Between Harlem & Heaven, earned me a James Beard Award, a moment I’ll never forget. My second, The Simple Art of Rice, is a love letter to my favorite ingredient, with just about every rice recipe you’ll ever need. 🤌🏾We have a timeeee at The Cookout. Come as strangers and possibly leave with new friends, if not at least some amazing conversations. 🤎@heermancefarm really became family, most of the ingredients from this past week came straight from their farms to our table.
