Influenced by the walls, staying for the food 🍾🇫🇷

Brassiere Cognac American is bringing French classics with a New York twist right next to Bryant Park! The beef bourguignon and crab cake were standouts, but I’m still thinking about that bottle-covered wall

🎉 Big congratulations to my dear friend, the one and only @melbasharlem! 🥂✨

I am beyond thrilled to see Melba being honored at The Salvation Army Harlem Temple’s Annual Advisory Council Dinner on Thursday, September 17th, alongside community champions Iesha Sekou and the Mount Sinai Hospital Emergency Department!

Melba and I go way back. Back in 1999, when I was Executive Chef at Windows on the World atop the World Trade Center, we brought Melba on to help us launch our legendary Champagne Gospel Brunch. The energy, warmth, and culinary genius she brought to the table completely transformed our Sundays—boosting our brunch business by 65% and creating unforgettable moments for thousands of guests. From those iconic days high above NYC to watching her build her absolute empire at Melba’s Restaurant in Harlem, working alongside her has been one of the true highlights of my career. She is pure magic, pure heart, and pure Harlem excellence!

This honoring is extra special to me because The Salvation Army holds a deeply personal place in my heart. Growing up on the Lower East Side, my mother was cared for by the Salvation Army as a child while my grandmother worked long, grueling hours in local clothing sweatshops. I’ve known and loved their mission my entire life.

What they did for my family decades ago, they continue to do for the people of Harlem every single day—nourishing hundreds of neighbors, supporting families in need, and empowering our youth through arts and mentorship.

While I can’t be there in person due to a prior commitment, I want to encourage all of my friends, followers, and food lovers across NYC to turn out, celebrate Melba, and support this vital work!

Katie Lee Biegel, chef and executive producer of the documentary "The Most Spectacular Restaurant in the World," talks about the impact of immigrants who worked at the famous Windows of the World restaurant at the top of the World Trade Center's North Tower. Michael Lomonaco also joined TODAY to talk about his experience as the executive chef and director from 1997 through 2001. The documentary is available to watch on CNN and the CNN app. by @cheflomonaco

Windows on the World restaurants opened on April 19, 1976,and were destroyed on the morning of September 11,2001 during the terrorist attacks. None of the staff members who were present in the restaurant on the day of the attacks were able to make it out alive and died when the North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m. because the impact of American Airlines Flight 11 severed all means of escape from the 92nd floor up at 8:46 a.m. “NEVER FORGET” 🙏❤️🇺🇸 by @cheflomonaco

It was an honor to sit down with @cheflomonaco, who was the chef of Windows on the World, the restaurant that was at the top of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Michael shared what it was like to work there, his own personal experience on September 11th, and what made the restaurant and its employees so special.

Michael is an important part of our documentary, Top of the World. Windows was the restaurant that defined New York City for decades — it was glamorous, the place where people went to celebrate and show off their city. Over 400 people worked there, from dozens of countries, and the restaurant was emblematic of the American Dream.

As the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaches next week, let us take time to remember and never forget.

Top of the World airs on @cnn on September 7th at 8pm EST and streams the next day on CNN’s app and Amazon Prime.

On this day four years ago, @cheflomonaco was recognized at the New York City Wine & Food Festival dinner benefiting @godslovenyc with a proclamation from the City of New York — officially declaring October 15th as Michael Lomonaco Day.

This honor was made possible through the incredible advocacy of our board member, @melbasharlem , whose leadership and generosity continue to shape New York’s philanthropic community.

We’re so proud to celebrate Michael and Melba — two extraordinary champions of God’s Love We Deliver.
