I’m not crying… it more like sobbing covered in snot and sweaty. We are not co-workers or Friends or family we are galactic cosmically life mates forever. We have- made money, lost all the money, succeeded, failed, moved, lost parents, lost fur babies, traveled to Ireland England France Canada Japan Mexico Chicago San Francisco Los Angeles, We have filmed for Food Network and Disney together, We have been yelped together, We have hired / Fired/ screamed/ laughed/ danced together. I know this - I’m grateful for every moment and molded a part of my soul forever. You may be in Bakersfield and I may be in San Diego but it will only take one text and I know forever the only information we will need is who’s driving and what car. I love to the moon and back… by @chefmaeve

Some places in La Jolla are more than a stop on the way to your next appointment. They become part of your life.

Sugar and Scribe is that place for me. 🤍

I’ve known @chefmaeve and her family for years, and I’ve been coming here for what feels like forever. From birthday cakes when the kids were little to quick lunches between showings and meetings today, this place has been woven into so many seasons of my life.

If you know me, you know sitting still is not exactly my specialty. 😂

But somehow, I can walk through these doors, head straight to my unofficial reserved spot in the back, open my laptop, take a few calls, answer emails, and actually reset for a minute.

It’s basically my office outside of the office.

And then there’s the food...

👉🏼 My usual is the spicy shakshuka sunrise skillet, although I switched things up with the lox n' loaded this time.
👉🏼 The pancakes are dangerous. The brownies are even more dangerous, especially coming from someone who claims she isn’t a sugar person.

Every single thing Maeve creates is incredible.

But what keeps me coming back goes far beyond the menu...

It’s the energy.
The people.
The feeling that you walked into a place where someone genuinely knows you and is happy to see you.

That is what I love about La Jolla.

The businesses that become gathering places. The owners who become friends. The familiar faces that make a neighborhood feel like home.

May is an incredible chef, baker, female business owner, and genuinely one of the most inspiring people I know. If you’ve somehow missed Sugar and Scribe, go meet her, order something you probably won’t finish because the portions are generous, and soak up a little of the magic.

Just don’t take my chair in the back. 😉 by @chefmaeve
