New York City Marathon. 3:10:20. Personal best. Garmin said 3:08.

I came in wanting to run sub-3, and for about 17–18 miles I was right where I wanted to be. The engine felt great. Then the legs started to go.

I’ve been in that situation before and tried to force the original plan until the whole thing fell apart. This time I backed off before that happened, kept moving, and gave myself a chance to actually race the end instead of just survive it.

I’m proud of that.

And NYC is just different. The crowds, the noise, friends popping up all over the course, my family, G, Team City Harvest. There were moments when it felt like the entire city was pushing me forward.

I didn’t run the number I came for. I did run the fastest marathon I’ve ever run, finished hard, and enjoyed the day a hell of a lot more than some races where I tried to squeeze out every last second.

Progress.

Thank you to everyone who donated, showed up, made signs, tracked me, texted me, yelled my name or followed along from somewhere else.

That was a special one, as NYC always is. ❤️ by @chefnoahp

My dad just turned 80. I’m getting ready to turn 40.

Neither number feels quite right. I don’t think he feels 80, and I definitely don’t feel almost 40. But looking through all these photos makes me realize how much life you can fit in all those years and how quickly it moves.

You don’t get to go back and spend a year differently. Take the trip you skipped. Call someone more. Take better care of yourself. All you really have is the time ahead and the choice of what to do with it.

Seeing my dad turn 80 makes me think more about 40 years from now: where G and I will be, who might be sitting across the table from us 😊, and what we’ll wish we had done with all the years in between.

Maybe one of the gifts of getting older is realizing that time itself is the valuable thing. You can’t make more of it, but you can take care of yourself, stay curious, keep moving, and do your best to protect the years ahead.

For his 80th, I got to cook for him. After a lifetime of meals, travel, Eagles games, laughs, and adventures together, that felt pretty perfect.

Happy 80th, Dad. I love you. A lot more ahead. ❤️ by @chefnoahp

13 days until the NYC Marathon ✨ LFG by @chefnoahp

Lyon Marathon. 3:24:56. My 5th marathon.

Controlled through 22 miles. Then the marathon gave me a reminder that it does not care about my plan. Hot, humid, and no stopping.

Exactly why you do a dress rehearsal.

NYC in 28 days. Back to work tomorrow.

And to everyone, especially my amazing, beautiful wife, who supports me and encourages me, thank you. I hope I give you a little inspiration along the way, because you give plenty to me. by @chefnoahp

Taking the carb-loading serious while traveling and marathon training. Ice cream is definitely a carb… by @chefnoahp

Team City Harvest Co-Captain @chefnoahp is training around the globe this summer before he runs through all five boroughs in the @nycmarathon this fall.

Our team of 125 runners has the goal of raising enough to help feed more than 1.3 million New Yorkers who are struggling to put nutritious food on their tables. Support them now at the link in our bio and cheer them on during the race on November 1. #WeAreCityHarvest by @chefnoahp

Just documenting the ride. If something I share helps one person along the way, even better. by @chefnoahp

Turns out you can have a pretty great time chasing goals. A summer unlike any I’ve ever had.

Girls + fun = a happy Noah. by @chefnoahp

229.7 miles in August. Most I’ve ever run in a month.

Somehow did it while moving around Europe, eating extremely well and walking at least 30k steps a day.

And a big credit to G, my lovely wife, because apparently being married to someone training for a marathon means spending a significant portion of your vacation asking, “How long are you running tomorrow?” She never makes me feel guilty about the miles, even when the long runs eat into our days. I could maybe do it without her, but it just wouldn’t be the same.

You don’t have to stop living to chase a goal. by @chefnoahp

This is what love is…for me at least. by @chefnoahp

A very difficult summer…

Seriously though, nothing makes a chef better than the daily challenge of a new @airbnb kitchen in a new city.

Just making sure I still remember how to cook by @chefnoahp
